As just posted on our frontpage, Yogscast OpenTTD movie on youtube and our 1.1.4 release (which happened on the same day, funny enough) caused us to break some records:

20k downloads in 1 day.
4M pageviews in 1 day.
55GB of bandwidth used on our main server alone in 1 day.
60k unique visitors in 1 day.

And our server is happily serving all those pages :) From a personal point of view I am very happy our webservices survive this load without even looking up (I haven't been able to detect any change in CPU load for example :P). I could go on for ever about all kinds of technical stuff, but that is a bit too off-topic.

To summarize it: MOAR PEOPLE! :)

WOW again.

Just looked at what you did with the OpenTTD frontpage. Thumbs up. :)

Also ... 15,700.59 in the meantime.
Luckily the value did not overflow but they have risen their target just a tiny bit. (Link on previous page)

The US download mirror, which I host, has seen bandwidth jump hugely the past few days. In the past seven days, we've used almost as much bandwidth as we used in total last month! Hit stats for this month:

Code: Select all

       Date Hits Bandwidth
------------------------------------
01 Dec 2011 9,693 7.76 GB
02 Dec 2011 8,975 7.80 GB
03 Dec 2011 15,928 15.87 GB
04 Dec 2011 12,800 12.87 GB
05 Dec 2011 23,437 63.67 GB
06 Dec 2011 30,950 91.03 GB
07 Dec 2011 7,141 17.83 GB
Note that today's stats were updated at 3am UTC this morning, so that figure for the 7th is likely to be significantly higher!

I too can confirm we see a huge increase in US numbers. OpenTTD is normally EU heavy (with around 20% US); the last 2 days it has been more like 50% US ;) That is a nice progress :D

ChillCore: I am not a big fan of cross-posting and cross-asking stuff. Please keep things ontopic on this forum; things will be dealt with in their own pace in their own thread. tnx ;)

And so the new generation is discovering OpenTTD. The Yogscast has a lot of ~10 year old viewers from what I understand so it is good that the young kids discover the game that kept us up all weekend as a kid ;) Let's just hope that these forums won't turn into something which mirrors the minecraft community :o

Some of us are also interested in that kind of stuff ;)

Good heavens, 10 year olds should not be listening to Yogscast with their excessive vulgar language... :?

Indeed. I myself just recently learned just how vulgar and offensive "Annoying Orange" was, my kids love it and didn't think it was anything more than just "annoying."

10 year olds are not so innocent nowadays...

if the comments on the livestream are anything to go by, i don't think many will stick with OTTD for that long... :L

Yes, Yogscast really isn't meant to be marketed to the very young.

While I'm not a prude, it's unfortunate that so many youtubers find the need to cuss like a truck driver in their videos. I found one video that was really bad a while back, and just mentioned in a comment (since there were none, and the person had a ton of negative votes and no positive votes) that maybe if he were to cut out the vulgar language (that I felt was excessive), he might gain more people following what is otherwise a very good video series.

He replied back saying something to the effect of it's the way that him, his family and friends talk in the area where they live. Makes me wonder just how wide his double wide must be.

Anyway, youngsters are not exactly angels when it comes to foul language, all one needs to do is watch a few dozen videos created by kids and listen to them cuss like a street walker through out their videos.

Different generations I guess. In my generation, in general we don't go cussing like the yogs and other utubers do and yet in my biological fathers generation, they would cuss like sailors, hmm then again they were sailors (and pilots in my pops case)etc..

Maybe people putting videos on youtube are biased sample (I hope).

About them kids not being so innocent ...
True children these days are more mature at a much younger age then we old goats were in our days. But now as in the past much comes down to how kids are being raised by their parents ...
It is a shame that many parents just leave their children mess about by themselves as long as they are calm and quit.
IMHO children at the age of ten have no business behind a computer that is connected to the internet unsupervised!

Anyway in other, more maaaaaaful, news ... £21,492.21 by now. :)

This news of 25k additonal players is extraordinary!

Ive noticed in the last few days a massive spike in the views on my tutorials...

Hopefully they are all getting channeled toward the help they need.

Traffic to my TT site was doubled on the 5th, and tripled on the 6th, relative to normal. The past two days were also around twice the usual traffic. There have also been 2000-4000 more unique visitors per day to the forums in the past few days than usual - with, for instance, a total of 361,657 hits on the 6th, compared with 191,941 hits on the 1st (9496 unique visitors versus 5365). All good news, anyway. :)

I am watching Yogscast for over a year now and it's nearly always fun, true that some of their viewers are kids but you do not control who's checking their videos, to be honest I do not think their are targeting teenagers, just came out this way ...

Was so happy to find out they are doing OpenTTD, certainly great idea. Yogscast and TotalBiscuit have that kind of power to bring lots of (indie) games sites down :P

Anyway, let's welcome Yogscast viewers and hope some of them will stay longer with the game.
