Thanks for the replies.

I think i discovered where the problem is. I think its related to one of the ai's. I've started a game without ai's, and so far in about 30'ish years, there are no crashes.

Is there any way to disable AI's via console? so i can disable them on my saved games where i know when it will crash.

Once again, thanks for the help. :)

There is a fix in the trunk for an AI-related bug:
svn log wrote:Fix: [NoAI] List valuator could cause invalid iterators [FS#3665] (r19367)
Edit: if you read FS#3665 at bugs.openttd.org you'll see that this is a fatal bug that can cause crashes.

It will be included in the next 1.0 RC as it has been back ported to the 1.0 branch.

You have these options:
  • Stop your AIs using "stop_ai <company number>" in the console (can be opened from the menu to the far right in the toolbar)
  • Upgrade to a nightly. Your savegame from 1.0-RC2 should work in the nightly version; however, if you choose to go back to 1.0-series again, then savegames that has been saved with current trunk will not load in the 1.0-series. So you can go to nightlies but not back again with a specific save game. A nightly save game will most likely work in 1.1-series when they come.
  • Wait a couple of days for the RC3 to come. (I don't know when it will come, but probably within maximum 1-2 weeks)

I've noticed a problem with RC2.

I like to set the screen resolution down to 800x600 'cause the game was designed for the low resolution monitors of 15 years ago and it feels more like the original and you can zoom in closer. However I've noticed with RC2 when I do this it won't let me go to fullscreen mode. A red box says 'Fullscreen mode failed' when I try.

I havn't had this problem with the previous versions, so I assume it must be a bug of some kind.

Are you sure you have set the resolution to 800 * 600 before trying to go to fullscreen? I have just tested and it works for me.
When set to a non native resolution then I get the the error message.

Related to this but maybe not a bug, when coming back from fullscreen all applications that were open are closed. eg webbrowser. I am using Ubuntu 9.04.

Just tried it again. And I've just noticed that fullscreen mode doesn't work at all in any resolution. I didn't have this problem with any of the earlier versions.

Any suggestions?

Tell us more. For example what does 'any earlier' versions mean? You are telling it got broken between 1.0.0-RC1 and 1.0.0-RC2? Or that I broke it when tagging it? Also what OS are you using? And what version of that OS?

I just wanted to start a game and the game crashed on me while I was moving the mousepointer towards the game options.
I have tried a few times but I could not reproduce. Maybe the crashlog could provide some clue.
Ubuntu 9.04, windows binary under wine.

I've used versions 0.7.2, 0.7.5, and RC1, and they all worked fine. I've only had this problem with RC2.

What do you mean by OS btw?

ChillCore: Just google for the exception (80000101) and it will show up many times on Google and most of the times it's related to wine. Given that it shows up in bugs from the 2000 range to the 52000 range it seems to be something that can be triggered by a lot of things.

Thank you for your time Rubidium.
I did not think of searching for the exception ... will do first next time. ;)

I just tried w/ RC2, WinXP SP3. I can flip from widowed to full screen as long as I've selected a resolution. If it's set to "other" then it won't go.

Why don't you use the .deb file?

I'm afraid it won't work on mine even if I've selected a resolution. I've even just tried reinstalling it, still doesn't work.

Changing back to 1.0.0-RC1 does fix the problem?

Because I installed OpenTTD once through "apt-get install" and when I wanted to update to a nightly by means of a .deb I got the is already installed error.
I have been to lazy until now to do it properly and most of the times it runs with no problems ... :)
I did some searching and this seem to happen at random with many other applications under wine also.

My self-compiled linux binaries run with no problem though. I will try again when 1.0.0-stable is released.

What is the resolution of your desktop? Maybe that is not native?
What happens if you set your desktop to 800 * 600 first?
Just a wild guess, did you leave the window maximised before trying to change to fullscreen? If you do changing will fail also IIRC.

Edit: Sort of cross posted with Rubidium

Aha success!! I altered my monitor resolution down to 800x600 and fullscreen worked. I then altered it back to normal (1280x800) and it still works. Very mysterious!
