Orkney Islands Council adopted a Comic Sans-alike font for the Education Department a few years ago. It hurts us, precious:

Reminds me exactly of the font that we used in kids storybooks.

The Singapore Land Transport Authority has quite a distinctive font public transport.

(World Trade Centre station was renamed to HarbourFront station for obvious reasons.)

I use Times and/or Computer Modern for scientific texts. Presentations go in Helvetica, for the sake of legibility.
If I would write any serious texts, I would use either Times or Palatino. All in LaTeX of course, because I like the superior quality of its output.

For not-to-be-printed texts, e.g., texts that appear on screen, I usually don't care as long as it is legible.

Now we have covered the practical fonts, but my actual favourite would have to be

With OpenTTD's custom font support, you could find out what it'd look like quite easily.

Times of serif fonts and Arial of non-serif fonts.

Open-source, Verdana.
