A Eurostar EMU could make an appearance to settle the UK/EU argument ?

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
Good idea. The 2cc set is also missing a Eurostar, they can use those sprites as well.jake.grimshaw wrote:A Eurostar EMU could make an appearance to settle the UK/EU argument ?
Also, I have some questions for you, those who have downloaded and tested this set.
1) Do you use or find useful the Sleeper and Panorama wagons?
2) What do you think of the passenger wagon selection in general? (The local, high-speed, Eurofima, etc. selection)
3) Has anyone found a good use for the KÖf II locomotive? If not, then I challenge you to find one (apart from eyecandy)

4) Do you find the lack of shading on the vehicles irritating? Because IMO my sprites look really weird when I attempt to do shading (and take 5x as long to draw)
Thanks,
Jake

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
here are my answers:
1) -You kidding!? of course yes! i always attache 1 Sleeper and 2 Panorama on my long routes (since i downloaded the grf)
-One question: don't you think that 40 persons in the sleeper is a little crowded? IMO the sleeper and panorama should have less.
2) -They look pretty good and different. and the characteristics to are pretty different. I find them useful in creating a vast and different
transports (i mean on the main lines having a type of carriages, secondary lines another type, and little city links another one again).
3) Well, in 1931 when becomes available, i use it for little links, but yeah, more for eyecandy. It's realy cute
.
4) I think your grf it is suitable perfectly with the OpenGFX theme. I like it very much.
So, as far as i know you've done a very good job!
Thank you very much!

You can fit 21 people in a Mini, that doesn't mean it can seat that manyYou can fit around 60 people in a couchette car...

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
9 to 11 compartments per wagon and 6 bunks in each. You do the math
Note that I was talking about couchette cars. More luxurious sleeping cars have a much lower capacity.

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
Name Year Done Speed Capacity To end this argument, here is a table of all passenger cars in the set. The capacities are based more on gameplay than realism. However, notice that the Sleeping carriage carries less passengers than the Express Passenger carriage and is introduced at the same time. Also, the Panorama carriage carries considerably less than the Eurofima carriages. But the sleeper and the panorama both carry more than the 1920-introduced passenger carriage. So IMO the carriages are balanced well overall.FooBar wrote:You can fit around 60 people in a couchette car...Sensation Lover wrote:-One question: don't you think that 40 persons in the sleeper is a little crowded? If you don't like this setup and you have a better idea with a good argument and specific figures, please post pr pm me and I will consider it.

Thanks,
Jake

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
A narrow gauge extension of this set has been announced! It will contain various narrow gauge trains, including many from Switzerland, and also other parts of Europe, and generic industrial style trains. I would like to thank Jake Grimshaw, who is helping me make this set.
Need to know:
* The taster is available in the first post. It contains a Swiss style NG Passenger train.
* The narrow gauge trains replace Maglev for now. Future versions will probably have a parameter to switch between monorail and maglev.
* For best visual effect, use the NGRails by Cornelius, found here: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=19888

Hey, for the Narrow Gauge trains why not just put it on its own narrow gauge rail rather then replace maglev

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
It's a taster, therefore it's temporary
The narrow gauge tracks only replace either of the original railtypes. I need Narrow Gauge rails to be drawn for NewTracks first.
BTW, I just discovered that openTTD nightlys now support New Rail Types! More info here: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... 49#p864249
I will implement this feature in the GES in the future. It will have 3 different electrification systems (possibly 4) and 2 main gauges (Standard and Russian). The electrification systems are 25 kV AC, 15 kV AC and 3 kV DC. (I may include 1.5 kV DC sometime) Each system will have its own locomotives, and some locomotives will be available on more systems but not interchangeable, and others will be multi system (capable of all systems).
The Narrow Gauge set will also have 2 gauges: 1000mm electrified for Swiss NG systems, 1000 mm unelectrified for other railways; 750 mm electrified for Mariazeller Bahn, and 750 mm unelectrified for industrial railways, etc.
Proposed track types:
1. 1435 mm, unelectrified
2. 1435 mm, 15 kV AC
3. 1435 mm, 25 kV AC
4. 1435 mm, 3 kV DC
5. 1435 mm, 1.5 kV DC
6. 1520 mm, unelectrified
7. 1520 mm, 25 kV AC
8. 1520 mm, 3 kV DC
9. 1000 mm, unelectrified
10. 1000 mm, electrified
11. 750 mm, unelectrified
12. 750 mm, electrified
13. Metro (3rd rail)
14. Maglev (Transrapid)
15. A funicular or cable car maybe?
This means that future versions of GES will not work in TTDPatch, because of new rails and, because it will need more vehicles, extended IDs.
By the way, Public Alpha 2 is here!
See first post.

The DB "Blue Tiger": I already have several similar locomotives planned, such as the Vossloh G2000, the Blue Tiger is not widespread enough.
The NoHab 16: Already in the set; it's just called NoHAB AA12.
Some of Serbias and Italy's trains: Planned; including some Italian electrics and Eastern European GM locomotives.

Anyways, I still think the vehicles in the set are too cheap.
Also, when will you start work on the GES Frieght Set?

Re: The Generic European Train Set (GES) Release Thread
Leave the freight set until this set, and the narrow gauge set is more complete IMHO. Still, real life commitments will always come first. Still enjoying your owrk Jake
