First off, SSH is mandatory. FTP is way to insecure, and very outdated. Using rsync is much more safe, but also: much less bandwidth. It automatically only sends the files missing. FTP can do this too, but with much more difficulty and effort. So sorry, we do not accept a mirror with FTP as upload.

About the bandwidth: we cannot promise anything bandwidth wise. We can only say the traffic will be around 0.5TB currently. The more mirrors, the lower this will be. And it can boom during a release. We can't make promises on that. (mostly as people can raw access the mirror at any time).

Even so, as explained in the topic itself, the algorithm to find the closest mirror is not country-based, but location based. As the NL mirror is very close to the border of DE, it is possible NL is closer for you then DE is. And even if they are equal in distance, the load balancing algorithm (as explained in the topic itself) can make it randomly pick either NL or DE, depending on their load.

The NL mirror seems to be down; i can't download openttd from it. Although I can download it by manualy using one of the other mirrors from the first post.

this spiring i am moveing to a new house/appartment/something, and if i get a fibreconnection there i might be able to offer a norwegian mirror

Unfortunatley i think they need some kind of datacenter and rsync.

I talked with a frend of mine who is an admin of the network in the biggest university in Sweden she was able to offer pretty much limitless traffic but just ftp for transfer, i'm not sure why but they would not let anyone use rsync on their machines
I relayed the offer but ftp needed to be rsync instead
Tho the intended datacenter was much apreciated i think.

I do have my own server at home, and if i get a fiberlink will it be 100/100. Time will tell
