Looks good but he has made the land much too high!
Jonwintley, why not find a map of the area from a larger map and cut it out of that? It can be a long process but hugely rewarding, I was very happy with the County Durham map I made that way.

or change the season....
you can open the editor and switch it to "north american, no snow".... or make your own. that is changeable after the scenario is made.

Are you sure you can change climate? He probably used UK Climate which it doesn't let you change out of...perhaps you could try removing the cities as that would remove the roads which are climate dependent...
There is an SWT climate in the BR pack, so that would be useable if it could be switched.

you are confusing the climate and the region.
The region is locked in once the landscape is formed. That controls the base set of objects and a few details like left hand driving.
The climate is just the snow effects. That is changeable at any time.
