Great! Maybe I'll start on a gas station or something else.

Personally I don't see anything to add there, so make another building, please. :))

Hope you don't mind, I had a quick play with it. Whether my version is better is subjective, but here's the two for comparison:

Lots of small changes:
- roof on the right is reshaded - rear / side faces now distinct. Lost the tile pattern though, maybe that needs putting back.
- NE / E / SE faces get single pixel highlights. NW / W / SW get single pixel shadows
- added some darker pixels where roof / walls meet, and at ground level. Also a few anti-aliased pixels to blend roof and walls, but XeryusTC is better at that than me.
- made a few tweaks to windows. I think the entrance door / windows could also be tweaked, but I left those alone as you may have reasons for doing them the way you did (and I'm not sure what they need!)
- shadow pixels by the roof chimney

I have another idea, something which has helped my small buildings, back in a minute...

Ok...sometimes adding lawns helps. Dunno if it does here. Also there are some additional shadow pixels on the ground, by the walls, and the plant pots.

Yours look better from my point of view. I like what you did with the roof, its more smooth then the original.

The store this building is based on is shown in the two pictures below. (I took them about 30 minutes ago :P )

Also, I've been looking at the game again, and I think I'm lighting roofs all wrong. The NE face is shaded dark in original TTD buildings; I'm shading it light.

Given that light comes from the right I think Simon Foster might have drawn roofs wrong as well? Probably this is deliberate because it just looks better in game, even if it's wrong (or is it actually correct, and I'm wrong)?

Simon Foster probably drew roofs wrong on purpose to make them look better ingame. For me the shading on the store looks correct.

Well now I've spotted the problem, I'm going to redraw FIRS building roofs to fit with TTD default style :? Otherwise things look odd. Game style is more important than realism :)

Good thing you discoverd this now rather then after all FIRS industries were drawn.

I don't think it's actually that noticable in FIRS. Also look at the default TTD industries first. They seem to be shaded rather inconsistently... But by all means go see by yourself and change things if you think it's necessary. :)

honestly, the "common" people would never notice, you have to look for shading errors to find them

this point is supported by the fact that people have been playing this game for 15 years and nobody noticed

It's very good.
I recommend You that is better draw the construction stages (1, 2 or 3) and a version with snow.

construction stages will come, as for the snow version I havn't decided if these buildings only will be in temperate or other climates aswell.
