I know this is an old topic.. Very old...
But a fresh new Seagate 2TB with 3 days of use just had a mechanical failure (And yes no SMART alert (using 3rd party app) or any other kind of noise announce it's death, just a sudden beep loop like the one your hear from the speaker of BIOS...
Anyway, since using some recover software I could at least recover 95% of my data that was still on the disk this one replaced, one of things that wasn't possible to recover was his video... I had the memories, but no file name..
So after goggling SVN commit Videos for OpenTTD, I finally found it again..
And the main reason for me to be reviving such an old topic, is that I believe most recent members never heard or knew about it..
So everyone, please watch it, it's awesome...
(Mod's please forgive me, didn't want to be disrespectful, but it seems this topic was forgotten without the proper recognition)

Can't someone put this on YouTube or something? Not everyone has the bandwidth to be downloading videos, especially if I need specialised software to even play it.

This is pretty epic. I wonder if it would be possible to extend it to the last three years of development, as Planetmaker for example isn't even on there yet.
@Sabre_Justice: That's a great idea. The video is a somewhat large file at 30-something megabytes.

I understand your point of view but when you think about it...
Watching a video on youtube is not so different from downloading it from the link.
1) The file is going to be just as large on Youtube and thus you will download just as much data.
2) You need specialized software to see Youtube videos as well. (Flash player)
VLC (and players like it) isn't specialized software either. VLC is a very good video player that supports ALL known formats. Using VLC means you will never need another video player ever again. (pretty much)
That aside, OTTD could use some kind of official Youtube account (unless they have one already) where OTTD players can find all kinds of videos about OTTD. Including this one.

Yes, but I'm the shamelessly lazy and short attention span generation who can't be bothered with anything that involves clicking more than once.

It's only 32MB, which by today's standards is pretty small. You can effectively "stream" it using most players anyway, as long as your Internet connection can manage at least 800Kbps or so.
Would be interesting to have a new video made now, I guess, anyway!

I guess it shouldn't be to hard to do this as the tool used still exists:

Arie:
The video generated by codeswarm is relatively boring. To make it interesting you need to add music and comments about what what is going on like in the original video.
So, it is some work involved to do that.

Just did, hope the original author doesn't mind. If he does, I'll quickly take it down again of course.

(It's processing right now, but should be up momentarily.)
EDIT: nevermind, I just took it down. Youtube did a content match on the background music, which also caused it to be blocked in almost all non-US countries, so I decided to remove the video so as to not jeopardize my unmetered account.

It isnt their fault entirely.... Music companies especially have been so against anyone using their music. Youtube has to be very careful otherwise it gets sued

It sure looks fascinating! The figures/data are moving really fast though, when records of over 20000 revisions are put into a 6 3/4 minute video.

It reminds me of a huge space battle in Star Trek!
