You could use the Heightmaps feature of OTTD but it depends whether you are developing this for OTTD or TTDP.

It was originally for ttdpatch, as i don't have openttd (patch makes more sense, and is easier to modify, imo)

...or surely you could get hold of a heightmap, install OTTD as well, open the heightmap, save the scenario, then use it in TTDP as well.
Or, get the heightmap and ask an OTTD user very nicely if they can use the heightmap and make a scenario for you...?

OpenTTD scenario files are incompatible with TTDPatch, unfortunately.

Online/electronic methods are preferred, but a postal order is acceptable, yes. Thanks!

CCCP wrote a little program called SV0Creator that will convert a bit map into a TTDX map. You can find it
here.

T'was a pleasure. You'll want to play around with it a bit and experiment so as to get exactly what you are looking for in a TTDX map. Even so, the results may be a bit rough and need some touch ups. Enjoy.

The Government of Canada provides an online topographical map tool called Toporama. I would assume that the United Kingdom has a similar service. Do a Google search for
Wales Map Topographical

trt77.sv0
Looks good for a raw impression. Now you'll want to clean up the rough spots and add in rivers etc.

Somewhere in the OTTD Scenarios forum (if it still exists) was a topic on how to generate heightmaps with Google Earth and another free tool. It was rather complicated but well explained in the topic.
EDIT: Found it:

Purno, great! thank you, but unfortunately i'm too tired to even attempt it today, i was up at 7:30 UTC going to the Eidteddfod (a music, language and culture festival in Wales), then working as a volunteer for the RNIB (on my feet all day), and having to travel all the way home (which takes 2 hours), but, i'm not moaning, as i learnt some Braille, it's a shame i can't have some on my signature... yet!

You went to the national Eisteddfod? You should have gone to see orudge, he's near Mold.

I was in Mold waiting for 2 buses (one going and one returning), what nice people there were.
Anyway I have started on V2 of the basemap, using Purno's useful post and linkh
By the way, i haven't been successful with my attempts at getting braille in my signature yet, but i feel very close to getting it!

I saw the market, but not you! (well obviously, you're not Melissa Joan Hart!)
BTW: Like my sig? took forever to do it, i had to do it 'by hand'
BTW2: V2 of the map's taking shape, Rivers are in, and so are many of the towns (it won't be 100% accurate due to the rubbish scale used, might rehack it again

Has anybody begun drawing anything from the tracking table? i was only wondering, before anybody complains.
I haven't done much on the map today, due to hardware faults (i've had to system restore 5 times!)

Hi Mark, I know you said you are just curious but if you are waiting for other people to do work for you, then you need to be REALLY patient! Most sets on here have been around for months if not years. And most artists are part of bigger projects already. I would imagine that you're set will take a long time to complete.. just because thats how it works here.
The other thing is the
'tracking table'. You still havent produced anything significant. What I would suggest is this:
- Go back to the first post and edit it. Remove any unneccesary comments and make it just explain the basics of your set.
- Next, add a heading for trains and underneath it list ALL the trains you want in your set and the status next to them.
- Do the same for other vehicles, stations, bridges, etc.
- Then add a misc. category or something that you can add your map in, maybe Welsh town names file etc.
That way, people can quickly look at your first post and see what needs to be done. I know myself that I wouldnt want to search through the thread every time.
Hope that helps, although that is only how I would do it. Others may have a different approach.
