Looks.. okay. Getting there, although there is quite a bit that doesn't seem to scale. I guess it may be unnoticeable with OTTD's scale.
Yes the scale isnt there quite yet, the actual ottd dimensions put the true scale out the window totally. for example to fit one carriage of this train into 1/2 a tile's length would probably mean losing all but 2 of the windows (like the passenger carriage in Ottd), in ottd's case the length of one carriage in real terms is just over 6 metres (if a tile is 12.5), whereas in reality most british rail carriages are around 22 metres.
The sides are also the wrong shape. They don't slope all the way down to the bottom. There also doesn't seem to be enough space at the end of the coach for doors and the last window, but I guess that's just changing the texture a bit.
Not sure what you mean by not sloping all the way down to the bottom.. but i can see that the termination of the slope could be higher.. as for the doors and windows in this current iteration it isnt of absolute importance, it will come in time.
Sorry if I seemed to criticize this a bit, but I'd say I have a very good eye for detail, so I can see where things can be improved easily.
I'd say you were right on that one

I too have an eye for detail, but please bear in mind there is significant work yet to be done, this image is just to show progress.
Thanks

Yeah, that's what I meant.
Basically instead of this shape:
\

It is this shape:
\
.\
..\
...\
....|
....|
....|
.._/
Or something like that.
EDIT:
Seeing this page:
http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Rail_ ... _Graphics) It would seem to me that vehicles are full length?

Yep we agree on that.
I spoke to ben regarding the scale and he like me seem to have been designing to full scale and then modifying them to work in a smaller non scale environment like ottd. So what i am doing atm will be as close to the original as possible, and will then be converted to being shorter for the ottd version.

ok did a little work tonight here is my todo list:
1. add lights to front
2. at exhaust to roof
3. im sure ill find something
4. increase the size of the undercarriage (wheels look a little small)
5. missing a window at the front.
The dimensions should be better now, also the slope thing has been fixed.
Thanks

To be honest, I can't really see much improvement with the sloping. It still looks far too low down. You're best looking for a photo of the front straight on to find where the sloping ends (just above the lights, just under the side windows).
Also, the region where you have modelled where the lights will go, that should be much higher up... level with the bottom part of the side window of the cab.

That's a model I've made for the new Kuju Rail Simulator game for when it comes out.

Hi everyone ive made some changes to the model, i think its looking quite a bit better than before.
The front windows need to have the yellow bar removed and textures need to be re applied, and loads more detail also.

first of all it looks great...
BUT:
1) doors and windows imo can be done better aka make some parts outside the smooth surface of the side
2) use official lightning setup (plz)
3) keep up the good work:)

Hello again,
I have returned from a rather long absence and redrawn my class 158, im generally happy with what i have come up with and need to work on textures and small details to get this working and ready for the next step..
Im really pleased to see so many new objects appearing on the wiki, i want to get this up there as soon as i can.
Thanks
Mr Worf

I updated the Class 158 in the 32bit exhibition by adding a thumbnail to the wiki. Hope no one minds!
The 158 is still a work in progress, and currently I need to work on the lighting and doing the side windows proper.
There is much to learn regarding blender, but i am getting the hang of it now

There is a standardised Lighting setup for blender which is linked to from the wiki, although, geektoo's recent work on dmh_mac's original graphic looked as though the shadowing was lighter... If this is so then I'd suggest doing the same as it worked well, and I have halved the shadow intensity for the train bits I have made so far also.

I downloaded the standardised lighting from the wiki last night. It makes things look so much better here is the result.
Cheers

Can't wait to see this in OpenTTD.

yeah I'm starting to gat bored from the floss 47 and the SH/Henry 25 as 32bpp trains (they look beutifaul but 2 trains is'nt much choice:P)
so I like to see this one in my game...
But I think I have to be patient as usual

Good news is that the project i am currently on in work ends in 2 weeks so i basically have nothing to do until then.. which means i can get stuck in trying to get this into the game.

Very nice start.
I think it looks a little 'flat', maybe add some detail to the roof texture and windows
Furthermore, please take a look at the scale of Ben Robbins train in the Blend thread ( the long version ), that is going to be the maximum length for a sprite. So it might take a little rescaling.
But I hope you can continue this, it looks very promising

The mesh is nice, and basically done, but I think there needs to be a bit more work on the texturing. The link to steelixb's model above is a good example of where the extra detail, which breaks up the large areas of single colour, makes it all more believable. A bit more shine may also help.
Also on that last render, there is something slightly strange about the back end. It appears to lean out in such a way that the train looks like it's twisted slightly. Maybe this is simply a consequence of orthographic rendering of a train with slightly sloped sides?

I second this.
