sure thing

Edit: please check whether there are no magic-yellow or water-cycle-blue pixels. If there are any, I'll fix it

Very nice :))
But you're going to remove the buttons below the thumbnail, aren't you?

I just stumbled over this thread. The arrow icons are quite nice (especially the arrow form) but they don't fit IMO into TTD style (color and light source). I just recolored them. No offence daylight!

1st and 3rd row current icons by daylight
2nd and 4th row by me.

This looks really promising! I hope you make good progress on this, and that it will be accepted into trunk when its finished! :)

4th row has probably better quality, but I like bluish colour more

I know exactly what Skidd means and I hope daylight is happy with the combined effort.

Meus, I also see what you mean, although I think they may appear different when in the GUI. We'll have to wait til Rich does another tester.

It was my mistake I forgot/delayed to comment on original ones.
The light direction for GUI is from TOPLEFT.
(Don't confuse this with the light direction of the game sprites.)
That was the main reason arrows didn't fit. daylight is a new member and is excused not to notice the above.
Thanks daylight, thanks skidd. You make a good team.

Many thanks guys. New arrows added to airports.grf. (skidd13: I have the combined airports.pcx with the arrows in - can I mail it to you so if you need to update, I wont have to cut/paste back into the .pcx)

NewGRF_ports is a promising feature - just played around with it.

Came up with a question though:
How will the cardinal points labelling be translated? One airports.grf for each language?

I don't think it's a good idea to use graphical labels. What is the problem with using a textlabel and put only the arrow onto each button?
e.g. place a textlabel "NE", ... left of the buttons.

LiOn

Grumble... second person to point this out. Possible, but we would have to have a very small font. Im not too clued up on how small we can go on font size. But, yes, there is no technical reason why not.

I can see the problem. But what about something like this:

Yeah, its probably clear enough. I'll discuss it with the other devs.

Not really available, unless you want to download the NewGRF_ports branch. It will be included in trunk on completion, and the old method of selecting airports will be dead, along with all the hardcoded airports. Also, once complete, any user can create a newgrf to the spec, and add new airport designs with their own graphics. It should also be possible to select alternate graphic sets dependent on climate or altitude, so you should be able to have 1 newgrf file with temperate, arctic, and tropical versions of the airports. Should... should... The power is there in the newgrf, but that sort of change is untested atm.

It has always been the intention to completely eliminate the old hardcodings, but we all realised it was a lot of work. One of the useful "cheats" I have, is that I have written a converter that takes the old airport_movements.h, and spits it out as the new newgrf text (with comments :) ). So adding the state machine for the small airport took about 1/2 hour, including corrections. I doubt even the larger ones will take more than a couple of hours.

However, this system will extend to replace the current docks system with fully controlled seaports. Last of all, will be the support for road vehicle ports... so the much desired multi-tile bus stations and lorry depots will finally be possible. (I hope).

Small airport has some magic yellow flashings. Sort them at your leisure - when complete, just let me know.

To be graceful, then grateful.

And the option you have is: OpenTTD is open source - if you dont like something or dont like how quickly something is done. DIY. Do it yourself.
