i think in TTDPatch you can build tram track over town roads, and the road still belongs to the town, while the tramtrack belongs to you. (like level crossings.)

I will investigate the possibility but I think it may require substantial changes.

but when the town relays its road it destroys your tracks causein all kinds of kuffufle

Enough talk about trams, you can discuss them in the Advanced RVs topic. :)

Back on the subject of drive-through road stops, what do you think about something like this for the bus stop graphics?

Nice. Smaller and less obtrusive than the other design. More of a bus shelter to me. :)

That was the idea, along with a bus stop sign and rubbish bin in company colours. ;)

Now for UK ones, all you need is the broken glass and the graffitti... perfect ;)

Just a quick idea on the whole deleting roads thing if you could place them on existing town-roads. Maybe you can make it so that, if you delete a busstop it turns it into a regular road if and only if it's not connected to town-owned roads. If one of the neighbouring roads is owned by the town, then the road-piece would become of the town itself. Only problem I can think of with this is that some joker might put a town-owned road across the map by building a stop, demolishing it, building a stop next to it, demolishing it...

you can demolish edged of town roads, so, what if it only converts back to road if both ends of the stop are road. and becomes the owner of these 2 road peices.

I still think it is best that a player can't build a drive-through road stop on an opponent's road.

Even it it's possible to have the road remain another player's property when a road stop is built on it, there is still one problem that I can't see a solution to. That is, what to do if the owner of the road wants to modify his road layout. He can't be allowed to destroy another player's road stop and he would also have to be prevented from removing his own road.

What I will look at doing is allowing a drive-through stop to be built on a road that is already owned by the player, without removing the road first.

I have been trying out some alternative drive-through truck stop graphics...

I think they look great!

Look great. I would suggest the bus shelter has its roof in the company colours. It would just make it slightly easier to see.

We have shelters with half-barrel roofs. The ends could easily be done in the company colour.

While this thread is posted in the development section and probably want constructive feedback, I'd just like to say: Awesome work!

This has been on the list of my top 10 most wanted features in TTD.

Also, I think the graphics you posted look really good, I might agree with rich though on the company colored roofs though, although I can't be quite sure until I see it in action.

Thanks again :)

Thanks for your comments everyone. :)

As for changing the roofs of the bus shelters, as I said before I don't consider myself to be an artist. The graphics I have made are just cut & paste jobs, taking components from the original road stop graphics. I think the only thing I actually drew myself is the company colour bus stop sign and that's only 6 pixels!

If any artists out there feel that they can improve on what I've done please feel free to have a go.

One more thing, I've found a bug. Building drive-through stops on slopes doesn't work properly. I already have a fix for this and will update the patch in a day or so.

Here's another screenshot:

Rather than spend a lot of time drawing, and redrawing new graphics, why not see what all the newgrf people can come up with too :) I'm sure it'd be great if there was a NewBusStops post with lots of shiny GRFS, as well as NewCargoLoadingBays :P

mart3p: fantastic job, its amazing what you keep coming out with

Thanks Sacro. :D

No, I’m not going to spend time redrawing graphics. The main reason for producing the graphics you see, is so I could test my code that loads new road stop graphics from a GRF file. It’s working now.

Having a GRF file now, means that if anyone comes up with improved graphics, they can easy be added. If would just need the GRF file updating.

Those ones you edited really are suited to the graphic design of TTD. Heck, they're even consistent with the existing bus stops, which, for default graphics, are something we would want, to be professional. With NewGRF, the graphics would most likely be their own new style, and may not fit with the existing graphics. Besides, Action A replacements could always be done later on.

Thanks that was my intention. :) As they are new sprites that are being added to the game they still have to be in a GRF file. Although of course the GRF will be a ‘required’ file, not an add-on, (so won’t require a config. file entry) exactly like the GRF that you did for richk’s new airports.

I don’t think that an Action A can change OTTD’s GRFs, only original TTD graphics. But of course there is nothing to stop people producing alternatives by replacing OTTD’s standard GRF files .

I have a question: does AI build these new stops too?
