OK .. but why should add to TT2 a tool (free) which allows users to convert MP3 to OGG (or other format)orudge wrote:There was a load of stuff about that on the Internet recently (few months ago). However, it's free for open source projects, or something. I prefer Ogg Vorbis anyway - higher quality and patent-free.

I don't see a legal problem with using MP3. Indeed, Frauenhofer Institute developped the best codec for several MP3 qualities, but you can download those codecs for free. Even if that isn't the case, other software developpers must have MP3 codecs too. I think that MP3 is the best choice. When people grow weary of the games' music, they can add their own MP3 for instance. Of course that's not a key issue, but it is something "generous" to the player.

Have a listen to this. I wrote it to be quite repetitive - you don't want the music to distract you away from the game (I usually die in an Operation Flashpoint mission I made because the old air-guitar comes out)

The patent thing sounds very much like with JPEG images. I know that any software that saves as JPEG must pay a royalty but I'm not sure about reading them. If anyone can find out what the laws are over this format, presumably they apply to MP3 as well

Eh? A Winamp plug-in for TT2? Erm... I don't understand that. It would be pointless anyway. Besides, we can use MP3 anyway - we won't have to pay a royalty, as it's only a free project and I haven't heard of that happening in the past. And if it did happen - who would they go to? Me? Rein? Adam? Someone else?
