Yes but then they keep it instead of other letters like in 'thru'
(through)
Of course this is the incorrect spelling. It's simply shorthand.

Fibreoptics, fibre-optic cable I think it is. USA spelling fiber, UK
spelling: fibre.

I've always wondered why there are differences. The US people can often
claim they have their own American language with this. Perhaps that's what
it is.

Sulphur, Sulfur
Favourite, Favorite

And also different words for different stuff.

Toilet, John
Notes, Bills (as in money)
Nappy, Diaper
Fountain, Faucet (as in water thingy)

And there's loads more.

I've always claimed that I speak American and not English...

Probably because the American language (spoken in the U.S.) has so many other
elements of other languages in, that undoubtedly words spelled 'fibre' were
pronounced 'fi-bree'.

Although it is totally OT I have to add my stuff:

The American English is closer to the original English of the 17th century
than the British English.

This is a commonly known phenomenon that isolated derivatives of a culture
keep the language as it was when splitting while the original culture
changes.

There are Germans living in Russia since 5 generations and they speak German
like it was spoken 100 years ago.

The medieval German is like Dutch.

And the English are a mixture of French and German, also known as Normans
and Saxons. The original population of the island, the kelts, remained in
Scotland and Wales.

Therefore if a drunken Dutch wants to speak German it is English (hehe,
don't take me too serious ;-))

Sorry, but the first people over here were Brits. They dumbed it down, not the
Americans. Probably because they didn't like the way things were over there,
eh?

The British don't either. What's the point?
