photoshopping the vehicle doesn't really help the design of gfx for the new vehciles... looks kinda funny though heh.
Think big

Why not start in 2000 BC, like in Trade Empires? Now that would really give you some scope.

@sionide: It was not meant to be a gfx design. (I'm bad at that

)
@Burschik: If you want to make it till the mag-lev era, you must be 1 complete year playing the same game!!

I don't think it's good to base it on a modern building
Besides we just talked a little about this in the channel and the idea about having horses in OTTD do not havest great support from the developers, well at least not from the ones that was present
If you want to use horses, then go play Trade Empires

How did you mean it is only a sugestion.
And i thougt the game was open source that means that everybody is allowed to change things and make their one distribution.
Or are i,am wrong.

Sure, you can do whatever you want to do (and if other people like it, they can play it). What you canno do is tell other people what to do. A different matter entirely. If the devs dont want to do it, you cant force them to.
[Edit] I read that again, and the above isnt as applicable anymore.

Horse Transport Would be necessary for those who don't have the money for trains.
Of course in 1830 the Steam Engines come so its really only 30 years.

you can make your own branch if you like as long as you follow GPL. What you can't do is to order the current developers to code a specific feature if they don't want to have that feature.

I don't think it would be a good idea to make a new branch for this feature through. We would get a better result if everybody would work on the same source instead of having 2 or more nearly identically sources.

People i think you don't understand exactly what i mean.
I was nevere said that the developers must make this.
It was only a idea.
Sorry when some people understand i tried to force people to do something, that was never my intention.
I think people understand my wrong because my english is not perfect.
I give only a little sugestioin and want to hear how other people think about.
And yes i have ideas to learn programming bymyself.
and make also features.
But that would take a lot of time before i can make anything.

If the start year will be set to 1830, what road vehicles will be available? What type was used that times? I think it were horses. You can alwas set startyear to 1905 or so, when fuel-powered engines will be released, right?

Yes, the only type of road vehicles then were horse pulled or experimental steam cars.

Steam ships and sailing shios were also vehicles of that time.

in fact, the 19th century had quite few experimental transportation inventions... Like Pneumatic Underground and railroad with engineless trains. (can't remember name... somewhere in britain. it had tube between the rails and 3 steam engines on the route were used to make underpressure in tube. first carriage of the train had piston inside the tube, which made it to move. Problem was that there wasn't no way to make switches.)

well, you didn't directly say this, but people generally think that the developers should do whatever ideas pops up here

It's not enough to have a new feature coded, it also have to be approved by the developers. If the feature is unwanted, it will not be added. If anybody should make their own version and distribute it, you have to be aware of what GPL tell you to do. OpenTTD have a working development team and so far the only fork (bigger maps) did not do well over time

I never thougt developers do everything people said.
i Understand that is almost impossible, there are so many ideas.
And programming of one thing is a lot of work.
but sugestions are always allowed, the developers decided of they do it or not do it.
How is it with openTTD is everybody allowed to make features or not?
Is it open source or not?
And when it is not open source who is the owner?

it is open source and it is GPL. This means that everybody can download the source and do anything they like to it on their local copy. If they want to give it out, they have to follow the rules in GPL.
It is allowed to code your own features and upload them on sourceforge. A developer will then look at it and decide if he wants to add it to OpenTTD, possibly in a modified edition. Patches can also be rejected. If somebody wants to make a patch, that takes a lot of time to do, it will be a good idea to talk about it first to make sure the idea itself is not unwanted by the developers.
That's generally how it works

handcar (at least the dictionary says so)
We could, but why? I can't see that they would be useful in the game. It's not like they are powerful enough to pull a freight train. They were used for staff transport only, usually when they inspected the track if there was a risk of damage or something like that
