Nah, I don't like it. Too messy :) We need more "soft disasters"

How about airplane kidnapping kinda "pay 1/2 aircraft value or we will destroy it"?
You can't control the plane (it will fly around, not land, you can't send it to depot etc)
If you pay, plane flies to your closest airport, unloads, and you can steer it again
If you won't pay 3 weeks plane will explode in air (then gray wreck will fall to the ground, explode there again and disappear.
Alt versio (not so bloody) - plane flies to edge of map and flies outof camera view :)

Oh, next disaster: bus crashes: both busses magically meet, break down, then both must go to depot with small speed. Simple, but you will loose profit (profit depens on distance and transport time).
That should be frequent disaster

And I've got question: what does submarine does? Destroys ships?

Another disaster in the same style... after say... 2001, planes may crash into buildings, destroying them
(all relation with existing events is unintended)

absolutely nothing i think. only appear.

Oh, about building, it is stupid when there is high building before airport... Plane flies throught it. I think airport should have one or two blocks of neutral area (with lights) so plane can land without flying throught the building.

It might be possible to put the landing point a bit further on the track, since new kinds of airports have been developped, i suppose changing plane behaviour has been made possible... maybe a developper could answer to that (but i suppose at the moment they've something else to do with map rewrite)

People are asking for disasters that aren't so easy to recover from..so i gave them a idea.

What it Does:Destroys all tracks, buildings, road, industries on the whole map, a chance to start again without restarting map(also a way to clean map of opponents..)
What Triggers it:If map is more than 85% filled with railroad tracks or road(not accounting city owned roads) 8)
I would prefer to keep my networks, for the "boastability", the fine repairings, the ability to show others my work...

Disasters

FIRST disaster, suggested by me:

This suggestion may have some ethical issues, still events of nowdays consider me to suggest the integration of terrorist attacks in OTTD.

Terrorists may appear on any vehicles. They would state their demand of money, and after this, you would have the option, wether to pay the bad guy or not. In case of a "no", the terrorist would detonate its explosives, causing damage on the squares around it, and severe damage in your reputation.

SECOND disaster.

In times of war (however, some said war will not appear in OTTD) your transport lines sould suffer air strikes. War would mean a period specified in years.

THIRD disaster.

Train robbery, just like in RT2.

FOURTH disaster.

Hunger in cities. When you start to supply a city with goods, I think it is quite logical that they start to depend on your services. If there isn't another source for the city, and you would stop your supply, the city could start to lose population due to hunger. This would also mean a reputation loss for you.

FIFTH disaster.

Electric grid damage. When you have an electric railway (I last used it in TTDP, I don't know if it exists in OTTD), sometimes, electric threads should brake. This would require a moderate amount of money to repair.

SIXTH disaster.

Semaphore failure. Train coming. Passed semaphore. Semaphore forgot to turn red. Another train comes. Passed semaphore real fast. Goes on. KABLLAAAMMMMMM.

SEVENTH disaster.

Tunnel/canal explosion.

EIGTH disaster.

Scandal on station. If you have a station with 1000 passengers waiting for long, they should start a scandal, causing damage to the station and arriving vehicles. (I wonder how you squeeze 1000 people into a 4x20m railway platform)

Waiting for your replies: Mr. Adam

Some local authority people may protest by standing on your railtracks, You may have the options of

"All right, let's do them some good" OR

"Squish'em!" LOL :D

War will not happen in OTTD due to agreements by the developers themselves.
