Quick update: The whole of cornwall is completed. All industries and towns have been finished, most of the Enlgand part of the map is done, just some minor issues to deal with.
I'm working on Wales at the moment, I'm placing hills, industries and there are three towns left to place.
I would have had the senario done quicker, but I only have the evenings to work on it. Should be available by the end of the weekend.
West country Scenario, Released!!!

Well here it is, two days quicker than I thought!! I have included 2 versions of the senario, one that starts in 1900 and does not include the motorways, and one that starts in 1970 and includes motorways. If anyone finds any large problems please tell me and I will fix them.

Theres a problem with Highways in the 1970 version...you did test the map before releasing with all stuff right, or ya just done it and stick it to the forums?cause there are instances when buses can't travel between cities cause your weird config of building one way road intersections cause buses to be not able to get some cities.

i played the 1900 version and completed it by simply building a train from the 2 biggest citys lol, pretty nice map to play though. good stuff

I will look into the bus problem.
I said the scenario goal so low because I like to play without pressure and see how big a rail network i can create. If you want a challenge it is dead easy to set a higher goal in the senario editor

Can you make another version with out the dirt roads.

I'm going to work on the motorway problem tonight, i will remove the dirt roads from the 1970's scenario, but I will leave them in the 1900 one.

I have updated the 1970's scenario, my apolgies for the problem with the motorways, they now work properly. Also as requested by "Wozzar" I have replaced the dirt roads with taarmac ones.
See above for post for download.

I haven't looked yet, so don't shout
I found that this doesn't work:
Code: Select all
||
/->->->->->->->\
->->->->-}||{>->->->->
<-<-<-<-<}||{-<-<-<-<-
\<-<-<-<-<-<-<-/
||
But this does:
Code: Select all
||
/->->->||->->->\
->->->->-}||{>->->->->
<-<-<-<-<}||{-<-<-<-<-
\<-<-<-||<-<-<-/
||
I'll have to generate some screenshots at some point. Incidentally, anyone know where I can get some good relief data to use for a map? I'm not really up for tracing several hundred miles of landscape by hand

OK, looks like you took the original scenario rather literally.
Where to start? The whole scenario is in the wrong orientation. Penzance should be at the bottom corner of the map
I think I spotted why southbound traffic gets stranded at Worcester. Someone made a little mistake while building junction 7 on the M5

Yup - noticed this straight away - my parents live in the Midlands and the M5 at Wychbold is just down the road from them (literally!) and then on to Worcester...
After an hour or so of construction and deconstruction work that would put Jarvis etc. to shame I've reoriented the lanes to the correct direction of flow and rebuilt all the junctions.
Took a while but it's going to be worth it. Also sneakily added my hometown of Bromsgrove off in the top corner above Worcester...
Since this is for my own use only I will not be uploading the edited version of course.

I don't know what has happened with the map orientation, on my PC it is fine, penzance is in the bottom corner, where it should be.
Try rotateing the map.
i'll fix the one way road problem at worcester, and i'll redo all the motorways to run the right way round.

Here is the updated version of the 1970's scenario with the motorways corrected

Er, no
My bad, I said "bottom" when I should have said "southern". With the map open or in-game, you'll see a compass point with a small "N" by it, so there is an actual "south" in the game, whereas in TT you had to imagine it. Rotate the map until the "N" is pointed towards the top of the screen. It can cause a lot of problems for the station name generator, which includes N/E/S/W in the list of station names

Oh I see what you mean now, i've never noticed the compass before. There is nothing i can do about this without completly rebuilding the scenario from scratch.
so it'll just have to continue the imagenary way like TTD

I have been playing the 1900 scenario for a little while and really like what you've done with it! I live localy, so it's quite nice playing around in my old back yard so to speak.
Some feedback, that hopefully you will appreciate:
- There is a lack of topography, or somthing, basicaly hills! Devon and Cornwall especialy are quite hilly. Would it be possible for you to include slightly more accurate mountanous zones?
We have grape farms here, would you consider including them in any revised version?
You trunkated Plymouth, how dare you lol. Relative size, it is (or was) about 2/3's of the population of Bristal as far as I know, and much bigger than some of the other towns that are included. This must be changed, or I will be personaly offended lol.
Would it be possible to have some AI competition? Or an optional version with AI competition, for those of us who are still trying to figure out how to put the AI out of business
Other than that, I've really enjoyed playing it (and my suggestions are only minor anyway, its still fun to play regardless). One question though, how did you get all the town names right? I wanted to do somthing similar to that (but on a more local scale), but I got frustrated being unable to name towns properly.

I think this is recreation of the scenario for Transport Tycoon Deluxe, Called Westcountry <insert serial of numbers here>
Posted: 28 Sep 2004 19:18
by gg190
It is a reacreation of the West country scenario that was in TTD
(Full name "West country 90201")
Because this scenario is a recreation, then the hills on it are copied from the TTD scenario, i do not have data of the actual topography of this area. also this scenario was created by hand, before the map generator was created.
If you want an AI then load this scenario into the editor and in the scenario options select the number of AI you want, you can also change the scenario goals.
Glad you like the scenario.

i also gave this a quick download and test run, the 1900s version thus far.
it's a very nicely done scenario (i can't remember playing "west country 90201" in TTD, but then again, i hardly played the premade games)
it's quite perfect, a few hills to provide challenge, not to many though.
one thing i did notice is the towns seem to build all thier houses on the premade roads between towns. it's not a bad thing, exactly, but it's a bit odd seeing houses pop up in, seemly, the middle of nowhere.
