In the USA, the majority of the lines are not electrified. The country is so vast, that it'd be impractical to electrify every mile of rail line out there.

That said, the part of the country I live in had some electrified lines back in the early-to-mid 20th Century; operated by The Milwaukee Road and the Butte, Anaconda & Pacific. Both railroads ran passengers and freight under electric power.

There is 228,464 kilometres of rail in the US, could you imagine the cost of electrification. There are no new electirc freight US locos, there are a few older ones.
As Hula121 said there are some rather spectacluar ones that ran on the Milwaukee Road, I have released one electric boxcab already. Ones i would like to release in the future would be EP2 Bi-Polar, Little Joe and a EP5.

Well i know that US railroads are a major contributer to global warming, BNSF Railroad is the single largest consumer of fossil fuels per day. Even here in Australia we have recently phased out electric freight locos, dont know why thought.

From what I understand General Electro has built and released into production an Enviro Friendly Freight Engin w/in the last couple of years.

Yes, they even say that they're making a new, environmentally friendly loco, which lowers emissions by about 15%, to find out more, go check out their site, GEtransportation.com

This company makes hybrid locomotives used for switching.

In Europe we use the modified Alstom V100 locomotives (ex DR V100), they have recently been testing with a hybrid model for shunting and tunnel maintenance, it was featured at the Innotrans show.

It also has a regular diesel for main line purposes.

I have this pack and it looks great and it's nice to see the additional steamer locos for US trains, but the question is I have is will there be an updated to the steamers where the parts move? I dunno if this is being addressed or not and just wanted to ask.

Hey, I say go for it. I would love to see that. Even if it's just two frames (rods up/rods down) it would be really cool!

BTW, Jose, how did you get the boxcars to hold grain, paper OR goods? I just tried a few and they came out holding paper AND goods. Not what I wanted to do.

Hi Rtek, what i did was edit the Xml manually without Vehicle creator,
Add this for grain, paper and goods

Code: Select all

<cargotype id="8">0</cargotype>
<cargotype id="5">0</cargotype>
<cargotype id="1">0</cargotype>
I think there is a list of cargo id's out there somewhere, i found mine my checking each cargos xmls's. i wrote them on a piece of paper which is now lost.

Thanks chevyrider. I was trying to make some oil-only and chemicals-only cars, but it looks like that's not gonna be possible without new cargoes.

Catch is, how then do the oil rigs/wells and chemical plants produce just oil or chemicals?
