I do that quite often, actually.
That was my thought as well. E.g. for Dresden you'd have like a 2x2 station building and you can have slopes on both sides where you put a roofed platform and behind the station building you can put a terminal or something like that.
Eventually it's your choice how you lay out the station, it's just the buildings that are supposed to look like the originals, the platforms are flexible.

But I think this discussion is something for a separate "German City Stations" thread, should there be one some time.

By the way, Red*Star: I think Erfurt's main station is also pretty modern now... ;) (although I don't know whether they are finished yet..)

Well, you don´t seem to understand me. And no, what I meant can´t be done ATM.

Uhmmm... if you didn't mean this, Michael, I also didn't get what you intended to say us with the callback 30. (Maybe this is also because I have yet absolutely no idea what a CB exactly is... )

@VIPStephan: One half of Erfurt 's new main hall stands now... they are working on the other half.

Well, if we had a CB30 for stations as well, those retaining walls could be made a part of the station (graphically) ...

But indeed, we have not.

You have those "Archway Shops" all over the United Kingdom too. It'd be cool for a CB30 for stations. Should we start a petition? :p

Aaah... yeah, right, now I understand. That would be great indeed. Esp. when creating S-Bahn-stations like the ones in Berlin. :))

Ooh, nice! Yes, that would be a great addition.

indeed, Id love such a thing. I love the concept of berlins s-bahn (even been at the station in the picture a few times, not very far from my house).
and I love how stores and clubs are located inside the archways.
plus it simply looks great in a big city, where the inner-city traffic is taking place on raised roads. now OTTD just needs rail over tunnels so you can make roads go through this (yeah I know thats for the new map array, thus far away), and its perfect :D

Could there be some station extension just covering the tiles like the following:

Wow, nice! :D
It'd be really good if this was possible.

If this;

is possible. All you have to do is build non-track-station-tiles in front of the station, 1 level lower.

Dunno if 'this' is possible tho.

Of course it is.

However, it might be difficult from a TTD sprite drawing point of view, to have the walls covered without clipping. Dunno...

If there's town houses in front of the 'wall'. Why not station-sprites? Dunno.

Why should it be? Everything that's in front hides the things being behind it... And the stone walls are /definitely/ behind the next row of houses...

Quite easy and quite possible. Use logic peoples!

That reminds me, I need to draw more stuff for the Suburban stations set... More non-track tiles...

that idea... of those staitions.... it's genius.
why dont we do that ife you buildt on slope's it wil aautomaticlie wil have thos thingie's

Well, I don't know why "we" (=others) don't do that, but I know that I have used this possibility in many cities now, probably since the buildOnSlopes-feature of TTDPatch exists. It's just not very nice for the citizens of the cities I build in, when I "forget" to add places where a road-tunnel can go through the embankment

But back on topic now: Presentation of the construction of Berlin main station... - not the original, but /my/ Berlin main station :D - now also with the magic lower-level-forecourts.

For the last steps I need your opinion: I've made a new roof for the "Bügelbauten" ( = the office towers), looking more like the "original" Berlin main station. Do you find this new roof better or would you like to have the old roof instead, as I've left it on the office building in the back?

both look great, and i like the new one best. but you can also have both options available as a different building option, ofcourse. have you found a coder already? if not, i'll re-poke Aegir, because i really want to use these in the very not-so-distant future! :)
