Subject: Crops - plowing

Looking at Decembers competition seen where one of the entries used my tractor and plow. That reminded me I still had some plowing to code and add.

In this image the one of the far left is the original and it only had the one with variety of tractors. The rest in image was suppose to be coded as well, and I forgot.
These have disk and the spike plows.

In process of adding Scare Crow to the corn fields and tractors pulling a Seeder (used to plant the seeds for the next crop).

Do you know of any other crops that they used scare crows to try keep the crows and other birds away?

These new additions will not be available for a few weeks or more as I experimenting with some other ideas.

Never seen them around wheat fields in Australia .. but other countries might have them Maybe best I make one for each type of crop I have that way will suit all countries that use the scare crows.

They are not only amids fully grown crops, but also in freshly ploughed and sawn-in fields, so that birds dont eat the seeds.

I better do some scare crows for ploughed and sawn fields as well .. as I just finished making the seeder to sew some seeds.

Just had a look at it and will include it in the farms set. He has some facing opposite direction which might be nice for a change.

Speaking of crows .. story on FB today.

The NSW Police have found a large number of dead crows on the Sturt Highway just outside Wagga Wagga early this morning.

By analysing it was found that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with motorbikes, while only 2% were killed by cars.

The Ornithological (Bird) Behaviourist quickly concluded that when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow to warn of danger.

They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "bike"

I been having a go animating fruit trees.

The 1st in this image there are 2 after all the fruit been picked. The 2nd tree is in flower, 3rd the fruit is green and the last tree has fruit ready for harvest. Trying to get the cycle right for from beginning to harvest is finished to last 6 months so get 2 crops a year .. but the values available to get the animation speed right is the problem. So I got some experimenting to do.

Just made up some of colossal404's combine harvesters to see how they look in a wheat field.

The cutting blades at front hope colossal404 don't mind that I double the wide so they fit 1/2 a tile and be same as the other harvesters I have. The link to his work is shown in Quast65 post just above.

If we like I will code them and add to AuzFarmObjects.

Subject: colossal404's combine harvesters

I placed colossal404's harvesters out into the wheat fields to see how well they perform. They can harvest in all 4 directions compared to the other harvesters that can only harvest in 2 directions.

Subject: Animated Fruit Trees
Seeing if I can animate the fruit trees and if successful, see what other crops I can animate. I can not code slope aware. If I animate other cops that will just be on flat areas and possibly normal slopes.
These lemon trees have no fruit as wrong time of the cycle.

There are 2 other cycles where trees blossom in flow, then produce green fruit, before the ripen for harvest.

I did 4 types of fruit trees, Oranges, Apples, Peaches and Lemons .. but they can be used for other fruits as well.

Hope to upload the game file as soon as I get the timing suitable for those fruit trees.

Top row:
On Left: The Stable with the corral .. the stable is new. I had it in the graphics but had forgot to code it.
On Right: These storage sheds have bags of grain in them.
2nd row: Portable corrals with horse, cattle, sheep and a empty one.
3rd Row: Plowing field ready for planting
4th row: Combine Harvesters (credit to colossal404) .. Since he made the facing all 4 directions gives a better options. Hope to do some different colours when get chance.
5th row: Seeding .. planting seeds ready for the next crop.

I've removed the animated fruit trees for the time being.

Subject: Campfire.

Picking on fiddly things to add to farms and what ever else is missing (or not known if any one has made them yet) for the country.

The farms was missing water troughs and dams for livestock to get water so I adding some.
The water trough can be animated with sheep, cattle horses and pigs. I haven't animated the dams .. yet.

Looking at some players screen shots how big their farms are. So would your farmers like to go droving and camp out overnight under the stars (or rain clouds) as the distance to travel to the homestead is to far. I added a chuck wagon to feed the hungry people, Found some trees and strung a rope across between 2 of them and tied the horses to it for the night.

There is dam nearby for watering the livestock.

What is next:


I be adding some other wagons for those who like to be droving during the day light hours.

Can you think of any thing else that could be added to the farms?

Subject: Wagons Hoo

See if I can make some object wagons mostly to be used pre-1900 and very early 1900s before trucks took over.

Had a few goes just getting a size more suitable and looking good.

If you read back thru the history of Standard Gauge railways they got the track measurements from chariots and wagons. So I thought what if I did wagons based on standard gauge track template used in the game.

The red lines are based on 4 foot wide wagons and also my first attempt. These wagons are on the left in the next image.

The yellow is a template used for standard gauge. The wagons in image on right based on that gauge. Just a few pixels bigger.

The wagon at bottom of image is from Polroad and its his horses I stole and also based my designs on what he did.

So question is:

What wagons do I make the left side or the right side.

Subject: Help required for the Seasonal Changes and AuzCropTest2

Been experimenting on how to get fruit trees to produce fruit correct time each year. Much thanks to Pyoro and Quast65 .. between the 3 of us we made some progress.

It has 4 fruits, Oranges, Apples, Peaches and Lemons. all with different times when fruit is available during the year for harvesting.
The trees produce blossoms (flowers), then green fruit and then fruit ready for harvesting.

Thanks to what Pyoro provided Quast65 made a template source for Seasonal Changes

Only problem is the graphics of the fruits do not always draw. This is a message Quast65 sent to me:
Something I read in the wiki somewhere, the change of the graphics will become visible after the game refreshes its tiles.
That is always after a certain couple of ticks (255 I believe), or indeed when you move the screen around a bit.
So, the graphics not always changing themselves exactly on a certain 1st of the month is normal game mechanics.
Sometimes it does, sometimes not, but eventually it will.
So, for this kind of thing, that is to be expected behaviour.
We are hoping someone out there with better coding knowledge then us might have the answer so the fruit will show properly.

Subject: Wagons Hoo

Another experiment I been working on is object wagons. These are slightly larger then what other codes have done but I think they still good enough. Looking at photos on internet of wagons and cars together and agons are as tall and in many cases taller then motor vehicles. Stage Coaches are double height of cars almost same height as buses.

This is a image of the Stage Coach I made with some cars and a bus to give idea of its size.

imo it all comes down to whether you mind the date-gfx-update problem or not.

It's all over the place (don't get why it's so geometric either). Yes, if you do something that forces the sprites to be redrawn (zoom ...), it's all neat and tidy and as supposed to be, but if you don't do anything, you even get weird half- and quarter-redrawn sprites. And trees lagging behind not just one season but two ... or more (a bit of randomness wouldn't even be bad, we're talking about crops/trees/etc after all, but it's very extreme).

For me this sort of feature is only truly interesting for those that care about very detailed visuals. But that's also the one use-case where this issue will actually be noticed, because it's not as it's supposed to be ^^;

Otherwise yeah absolutely looks nice. Still think it's desirable to have, but, eh. Not sure it's worth the glitchyness.

e: Chances are covid booster will knock me out a day or two; happened for the first two as well, so you guys go on without me for a bit :mrgreen:

Thanks Pyoro for your feedback. Appreciated much.

What got me into this idea was Industry Farms that grew crops periodically. I wondered if I could get my crops in AuzFarmObjects to do something similar and at same time learning something new with coding.

For the novelty I will see if I can do some seasonal crops for the game and see if I can do the gardens in AuzTownObjects to grow flowers on and off similar to VAST.

Strange part about animating these fruit trees ..

if we use the coding that contains "current_month" in the childsprite timing is perfect but have the glitching.

If we use "((animation_frame + nearby_tile_random_bits(0,0)) % 4)" in the building
and in
item (FEAT_OBJECTS,
we use
animation_info: [ANIMATION_LOOPING, 9];
animation_speed: 11; // equals 28 days
animation_triggers: 3;

it not possible to getting time correct but there is no glitching.

So wonder for farm crops what be better. Does it really matter is apples are ready early.?
