...Here he is...

By 'official lightning', what is the official lighting now?...are Aracirion's proposed changes going ahead?

I'd say that a maglev depot, being fairly futuristic, would have a couple of antennae on the roof. A sattelite dish, maybe. A couple of tv antennae ect. That sort of thing.

Roof vents, too. Large metal buildings like that get hot in the summer :P

well i tried to make fans in the center of those thinks in the top, but they were ugly so i removed them, the maglev depot has 3 antenna's in the front

@ ben, its the OLD lightning setup (could not get the new one )

Sizes...

we had the discussion about airport sizes.... I just tried to see how big the planes are going to be ... I'd love to see big planes ....

with the large differences between big and small planes, if small planes needed less space on the airport, that would be a further incentive for using small planes (now the big ones are way too good)

well since every house is 1x1 on this picture, i guess the airports van be just the same size. The runway length isnt realistic in this TTD, and we only change the graphics into new graphics. But you shoul check bio's exel file to see if someone tried it yet, or if its still WIP.

If runways were realistically long, I'd be less inclined to build an airport, which of course could be balancing. Two Yate Haugans/Concordes long distance can make a million a year.

I don't know how well it would work in the game, but personally, I think it looks pretty cool having the planes at that size. Though I can't remember how much bigger, for example, the 747 would be.

Edit: It seem the 747 is around 10 meters longer than the md-11, so I guess it wont be that much bigger.

The B747 is also 15m wider than the MD-11 (66.4m vs 51.7m), and it is not exactly the world's largest plane.

The MD-11 is 51.7 m wide and 61.2m long.

Here's a table of the sizes of some of the worlds largest aircraft, as compared to the MD-11

Code: Select all

   wingspan length
MD-11 51.7 61.2
B747 66.4 70.6
An-124 73.3 69.1
An-225 79.8 84.0
H-4 97.5 66.6

Perhaps it would be possible to have a "maximum plane size (TM)"? So that all the planes that are either smaller or as big as the maximum plane size, would be scaled realisticly, but all the aircrafts that are bigger than the maximum plane size, would be scaled down.
So the An-225, for exampel, wouldn't be that much bigger than the 747 in the game.

I guess taxiway for large aircraft would have to be 3 square wide (75m) anyway, so the An-225 should also pass. As for parking, what about having 'dynamic' parking space? I'd propose that planes park diagonally, then an A-320 (wingspan 34m) would still fit into one square (25m x 25m --> 35m diagonal), whereas 2 squares would allow for a wingspan of about 70m. a parking space 2,5 squares wide would make a diagonal of 88m

every plane would have certain requirements as to the airport it can use, such as taxi-way size, runway length, and parking space, rather than just crashing if sent to a small airport. Or is this too complex?

as for the H-4, does it land on ground as well? Isn't it a water plane?

If Airports could be built from modules, you could build smaller city airports. If passengers choose their destination rather than just lining up for deportation wherever you please, really big airports would only make sense on really big maps anyway, I guess...

alltaken's work is NOT INCLUDED in the list so far, i think alltaken was doing the airport but i am sure i noticed someone else doing a terminal or whatever as well......

The Spruce Goose is just not a fair plane to pull out. It flew once, "remaining airborne 70 feet (20 m) off the water at a speed of 80 mph (130 km/h) for just under a mile (1.6 km)." [Wikipedia]

The An-225 is a much fairer plane, although it's still a one-of-a-kind.

Hm... I should look up the C-5 Galaxy too:
Wingspan: 67.9m
Length: 75.3m
That puts it either right before or right after the An-124

The first thing I would do is to use "set solid" on all the objects, and then give it a colour. It is really hard to see anything now.

well that is another problem, if i want to color a little part of it, the whole thing becomes that color (i read the guide on multiple textures and so on, i just cant get it to work (im doing something wrong) so if you can find me an over the shoulder session, then i can put up the brick texture for the walls and the black tiles texture (should be somewere) for the roof (maybe some broken ones) and the glass texture for windows etc.

another thing, i just merged all ojects, but how do i set it solid again?
