It'll be very hard to decide who's best...

But I give a little advantage to Oz.

There was a decision to extend it for one week, but because there is no poll yet, I suppose contributions are accepted until the poll is created.

I can remove the current Poll if you want?
(Just remember next time to set x number of days to say 2 (14 days) weeks so that you don't get late votes changing things...)

In fact there have been no contributions until the april 30th deadline for the may award.
Instead to extent the deadline for one week, and then for another, ..., I´d propose to skip the may round and collect contributions for the
june award. New deadline would then be
may 31st. I think that´s a clean solution.

Did you forget the main idea of the award? To make artists make more graphics. If we skip a round artists would move their contributions to the next months instead of making a new one.

That would be fine I think. Could you start a may award instead of WhiteHand?

Maybe.
But if we don´t stick to publicly accepted rules, the whole thing goes out of control. Meanwhile, it´s may 13th and there are still contributions which should have been made until april 30th.
And your above argument is somewhat silly. "To make artists make more graphics" we could even shorten the interval (against the original rules, o/c).
And yes, we already skipped the may round. Period. Possibly because there were no contributions from the artists´ side for that month. But how could you try to enforce that their contributions for june should now be for may? Just to hold up the impression that there were "more graphics"?
No, George. Not this way.

If WhiteHand is willing, I will take charge of the competition - I currently run the railway screenshot competition in transport discussion.
Of course how it works there is not how I would like it to work in this case, but with more than 8 entries we can't have a forum poll.
However - I'm sure there is some way around this if we think about things properly?
Any comments? I can't draw very well myself (at least not to this standard) so I'd love to see people create more art for me to drool over.

Actually you can, just get a moderator to add the excess, as far as I'm aware moderators can add quite happily have 8 poll options.

Lakie, I think Dave mean when we need more than that! Thats where the problem would be. Unless we limit each month to first 8 who submit?

No, they can't. Well, Born_Acorn couldn't, sadly.
8 is the maximum for users but
I'm guessing orudge can.
I just wonder if orudge could change the maximum number of poll options - it's not like polls are abused on this forum as with others, but it's his choice of course.
If the more established of the artists have an opinion on me taking over the competition (I'm here everyday, to your misfortune

- so wouldn't have any problem doing that).

First I´d like to have a poll about the "official rules", especially the time frame. I don´t think that two or three people should be allowed to arbitrarily change those once settled rules. If at all, this must be decided in public.

I would also recommend some way of 'showcasing' just the GRFs rather than having to hack through pages of random comments. Maybe a seperate thread for GRFs and one for comments? Or maybe an index/contents with links on the first thread entry that then link to the relevant reply that contains all of the Months submissions?
Just some way to keep it tidy, really.

You mean like an archive? top post being all the old entries etc and the top post being the current ones?
But yes, digging through the thread isn't going to be the best way...

Well, say:
Entry 1 wrote:April 2007 Entries - Winner: Ben_K
May 2007 Entries - Winner: Henry V
June 2007 Entries - Judging
July 2007 Entries - Submission
where 'April 2007 Entries' would link to one or 2 consecutive replies by the topic owner/leader/coordtinator which contain pics and names...
