The old wiki is read-only, so you probably should edit the new one ;-)

I do not know now, what to do. If you can, do the translation in a separate txt file on your PC, and when a solution about the wiki would be done, we will return back to this question.
Brumi wrote:And another one: You use the built-in strings for the food processing plant. Is it possible to provide an alternative translation to that, instead of the built-in one?
Only if it would be done for all the languages. There is no good way to have default string in one language and translated in the other.

There's indeed not except than a bit copy&paste: provide translations for this string for all language - obviously translations exist already for it, thus you can just copy them from the game's translations into your NewGRF.

No need to change all translations because my problem - I'll try to find a synonym for the tinning factory, I'll see what I can do.

George's Tinning Factory is a type of food plant that produces (packs) food into tin cans. I have never heard of "Tinning Factory". I think George made a literal translation from Russian. Better terms to use for your translation might be "Meat Packing Plant", "Fish Packing Plant", "Food Packing Plant" or more simply "Packing Plant". The simplest of all would be "Cannery".

I see that you have separate strings for the single and the plural form for each cargo. Where does the single form appear in the game?

And I need cases for some of the strings. Where should I put the case translation table? Currently it is just before the strings that need those cases. It looks like this now:

Code: Select all

// Case translation table
-1 * 0 00 08 01 01 24 14 01 "t" 00 00

// - Strings for cargo names
// tourists
// Plural
1 * 1 04 0B A4 01 F8 DC 9A 14 9A 10 01 "Þturistát" 9A 11 "ÞTurista" 9A 12 00
I'm still a newbie to NewGRF coding, correct me if I'm wrong :)

I'm done with the Hungarian translation :)

Can I try my translation in the game? I'd be surprised if I got it right at the first try.

I guess I will have to edit the tt-wiki, is it ready for editing?

Could you wait a bit (several days)?

It took a while to understand what is wrong :lol:
Please check if your strings work well. If yes, I'll update the others

I've just done editing the wiki. I removed all those  s, "s and Þs if you don't mind. It's a bit more translator-friendly now :)
Hopefully I didn't break anything with that reformatting, tell me if I did, I'll try to clean up my own junk :)
George wrote:who said you to use

Just copied the case translation table line from the FIRS source code, I didn't know that it makes a difference. I'll correct it.

Thanks for the test GRF, I'll check it :)

EDIT:
Almost got it right, so far there are only some encoding problems with strings that have cases. The cases do work, but the strings appear badly:
Furniture factory.png
Furniture factory.png (21.75 KiB) Viewed 3866 times

Code: Select all

1 * 1 04 0A A4 01 5F DC 9A 14 9A 10 01 "Þbútorgyárat" 9A 11 "ÞBútorgyár" 9A 12 00
I guess I did something wrong with those Þ characters, how should I place them?

The other strings have no encoding problems.
The parameters in the NewGRF configuration window are still English, is it another bug or you just didn't compile it in?

Unfortunately I never tested strings with cases, I do not know how to do them right :oops:

[16:55:54] <@Yexo> George: the thorn should be before the start of the string, so before the first 9A
[16:56:06] <@Yexo> and there should only be one of them per string
[16:57:05] <@Yexo> 1 * 1 04 0A A4 01 5F DC "Þ" 9A 14 9A 10 01 "bútorgyárat" 9A 11 "Bútorgyár" 9A 12 00 <- something like that
[16:57:19] <@Yexo> only 9A is not valid in a unicode string, so you'd have to escape that too
[16:58:28] <@Yexo> 1 * 1 04 0A A4 01 5F DC "Þ" \UE09A 14 \UE09A 10 01 "bútorgyárat" \UE09A 11 "Bútorgyár" \UE09A 12 00 <- I think like this

The following works

Code: Select all

    1 * 50	 04 0A A4 01 5F DC "Þ\UE09A\14\UE09A\10\01bútorgyárat\UE09A\11Bútorgyár\UE09A\12" 00

I found two errors in my translation:
In the agricultural vector, the string code for the plural form of fibre crops was incorrect somehow.
In the town vector, I forgot to translate a little part of the tourist centre's industry window text.
Both are corrected on the wiki.

It's nice to see the ECS vectors in Hungarian, thanks again :)
