Simply...South America

Dear Interested Members & Guests;
I've tested and am presenting to you all one of my best scenarios. This scenario is called
"
Simply...South America"!
It specializing in freight. Of course, we aren't forgetting all those South Americian passengers
and their mail either. Since S.A. is a major Steel producing continent, as well it's large Oil reserves,
I've placed plenty of Iron, and Coal (to drive the steel furnaces,) mines in the northern part of S.A.,
and also Offshore Oil rigs in both the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean which are connected by the
famous Panama Canel.
We all know about the Amazon Rain Forests, so, "
Simply...South America" has plenty
of forests, also. So, whether you try to crawl over The Andes mountains with a loaded train,
or you are riding across the hot humid flatlands of the Amazon terrain, you'll always be
confronted with a whole lot of various obstacles which, though this scenario is named
"
Simply...South America", you'll find that it isn't quite so simple.
All of this will be sure to add to your enjoyment as you experience the thrill of my latest scenario,
"
Simply...South America"!
I've also added a 'screenie' from my current S.A. game.
Always,
Jim Powers
p.s. Hey Mr. Raichase, sounds like your family is a 'scattered' as mine.

- I think this is a 'cool' to prepare the small Airport for the future large Airport.

How else can we keep the tradition of your high download figures up? It's always a pleasure, you don't need to thank me. I'd tip my hat and say it's all part of my job, but I don't have a hat on

.
Thanks for the kind words Jim.

Hi, Jim,
May be a bit late, but...
1. Thanks a lot for the Japanese longmap!! Really a nice change and a exuse to spend another couple of hours playing TTD in this busy world

2. About the statistics. Your 2 Russian scenarios currently are at the top of ttdrussia's download scenarios section. Russia Europart has been downloaded 2354 times, and Russia Asiapart - 1185 times. The third place is held by Majestic Bay (thanks to cornelius).
Good luck.
Thanks for the Russian Update

Mr. Oleg;
Thank you, my Friend, for your web site (TtdRussia.net) download update. Happy to find
you liked
"Japanese Expression". I was curious to know how "
Illustrious Italy II" was doing?
Thanks for hosting some of my scenarios. I'm very honored.
Hey
Mr. Raichase, you're the best. I love you and hope I'm your biggest fan, Big Guy.
Always,
Jim Powers

I dunno, unless we have a weigh-off on tt-forums, I don't know exactly who my biggest fan is
Thanks again for the kind words Jim - you focus on making the scenarios, and I'll try and do all I can to help people access them.

the one thing I dont like about longmaps is if:
Code: Select all
*=station
--=barrier in ocean
_coast
*____________
\
|
|
------------ |
|
|
____________/
*
that means if you want a train to go between the two stations it will travel three times as far, triple the trip running cost and third the trip income.
a S shaped map would be even worse as it would have to travel four times as far!

But it's a good way to increase the difficulty

You get less paid and have greater costs. People are always complaining about how easy it is to make millions with TTD, longmaps are one way to make it a bit less easy.

But when you think about how the map looks in the real world, your setup should look somewhat like this:
Code: Select all
_______
___________/ \____________
* *
So there is no shortcut a third the distance, that's why the barrier's there to simulate it and prevent people from building routes that would be impossible to build in reality (as a longmap is based on a real landscape)!

I think what m3henry was getting at is that the game only considers the straight-line distance when it's calculating how much income the train makes. So the train's going a really long way, but only being paid as if it were travelling a much shorter distance.

Thats why you have it service three stations - one at each end of the longmap, and one at the meeting point of the "v" or "u" that is drawn.
Moving Day

Mr. AndersI;
As you've pointed out, the challenge of the "Long Map" IS the degree of difficulty at making
a profit. Isn't that what we all love? Why play a 'strategy' game like TTD, if there were
no challenge? This just happens to be of a different type.
Well, I appreciate all the comments, both pro & con.
Now, today is 'Moving Day', UGH! They sold our apartment and so we've got to move. Found
a pretty nice place, and movers will do the 'dirty work'. Yet, all that packing. I've boxes all
around me. Looks like you'll not be hearing from me for a while, til I'm moved in and set up.
So, if the moving don't kill me, I'll be back.
Always,
Jim Powers

Mr. Richard.C.;

town, still, packing and buying furniture and appliances, etc. anyway, the wife has finally letting
me rest a bit. Still need to hang pictures and misc. stuff haven't been unpacked yet..........
Anyway, I wanted to show you a 'Super Pic' of my latest progress of my Saved Game, from my
last scenario "
Simply...South America". Boy, I really like this scenario. There is so much
one can do with this scenario. Great entertainment!
Here's my screenie. BTW, I'm thinking about making a scenario of
Hawaii. What do you think?

Hi jim, just wanted to say thanks for all these great maps.
Do can you post a link in the first post with a zip file containing all the saved games?
Welcome, Sir!

Mr. Zazzn;
First, Welcome to TT-Forums! Here, you'll soon discover a bunch of very nice people whom,
I feel very honored to be with. If you need any help or have questions concerning TTD, the
guys are there for you. We all here just try to make TTD more enjoyable, since it's the
greatest game on earth.
Your kind words of encouragement are a further inspiration for me to continue to create
scenarios that hopefully will make others enjoy TTD even more. Thanks, Buddy.
Hey,
Mr. Geo.c Ghost, I want to put Hawaii in such a way that there's a bit of
the mainland USA so the Tourists business will boom. And there'll be the 5 main islands. But,
I'm building also a scenario called "
Hills & Valleys", which I will release first.
I've finally finished playing a saved game from the marvelous scenario
"
Simply...South America". You'll 'lose' if you don't try this scenario.
Always,
Jim Powers

Just a note to show "
Hills & Valley" scenario Progress. I'm testing the train system in the
Super Pic. It looks like a very fun scenario, and definitely for the 'thinking' TTD player. Like tough!
"
Hills & Valley" will be released soon. Look for it, OK?
