But had TTD Patch for Windows installed, and updated it to TTD Patch for DOS! And how do I get the latest TTD Patch for Windows? Because if it detects TTD Patch for Windows, and installs TTD Patch for DOS, that tells me that program is really crapped up! I just want the patch, and I can manually install it, but I've looked for two hours for the file and can't seem to locate it! It's like "Let's make it easy for TTDXC to screw things up, and make it hard for the user to come back and fix it!" So how do I get and install the patch for TTD/Win? Since TTDXC obviously still thinks I have TTD DOS even with everything else saying TTD/Win?
The *easiest* way to *remove* files like you say is to erase everything that we had working in the first place. I would rather not do this. I have another computer, I can check the updates over there. I suspect it will do the same, however.
In point of fact, the programs have been removed and reinstalled, with the problem showing up consistently, and I had posted a previous note on this problem as well. This program has been pretty consistently giving me the wrong updates. So I've had to pretty consistently update the files manually all along. So perhaps it's not TTD or TTD Patch, but TTDXC that's loused, and it's been loused all along.

It's unlikely that it would foul up the other computer unless you've previously fouled it up in a similar way to this one.
Do this, on the computer you are having problems with:
1. Start up TTDXC. In the top bar, after a few seconds, it should say what version of the Patch it thinks you are using. Tell me what it says there.
2. In the File menu, partway down, it should give the full path of the CFG file it's opening and using. Tell me what that full path is - it will tell me where you have TTD installed, and (probably) that will tell me what you're using.

Well clearly, as it installed the wrong PATCH, I will have to reinstall the last version I have manually. I can do that, and I will happily do so.

I have some home made graphics in a file that I sometimes use with TTD. The graphics needed the GRF wizard and it's suite. These programs have several nuisance properties, like a GNU program the creates Ultra-Proprietary File Format Files {PCX, I think}, which there are like zero affordable programs to edit well, and which refused to allow me to place the files in a standard location. Something about not being able to work with folders with spaces and stuff. The result? The program is installed in the directory c:\mps\ttdx. I did not want it there. I would have preferred the directory c:\progra~1\window~1\mps\ttdx. But what could I do, since the '~' symbol and spaces were both ruled out of the GRF Editor Suite?

I manually reinstalled my previous version of the patch {a ttdpatchw.exe file}. TTDXC refused to recognize it and asked me which version I wanted after I was forced by TTDXC to remove TTDPatch.exe. It now reads TTD Patch 2.0.1 alpha 67 (Windows) But this isn't alpha 69, which it claims is available ... ?

Look, if you would like some help, I have some thoughts here, and a direction I was heading in. But I do need some information.
Concerning PCX, they are a very common graphics format. You can download an (older) version of PaintShop Pro which is free, and which does a GREAT job of editing PCX and about a million other file formats. Also it doesn't care where you put the files.
Where I was going with the Patch, was to suggest you go into your TTD folder and DELETE all copies of the Patch in there. I bet you'll find there's a copy of the DOS version, which is causing TTDXC confusion. Once you've deleted them, and perhaps installed a fresh Windows version, TTDXC will probably get its act together. But putting the DOS version of the Patch in the same directory as the Windows version, is a recipe for trouble. TTDXC can't possibly anticipate everything weird that might possibly happen.
Also, I do not think this is the appropriate thread for this discussion. Can a mod please split this off and put it somewhere else?
That's really weird.

That's really, really weird. I've never seen it do that before. It refused to accept the older Windows patch, and deleted it. I got angry, and deleted the DOS patch, then reinstalled the Windows path. It got upset at the flogging, refused to recognize the Windows patch, and said there was no patch installed, and asked me which kind of patch I needed. I told it windows. Then it installed Alpha 67 for Windows. I'm like, "Hello? I want Alpha 69?" I told it to look again, and it went to download the file. Of course, it tried to download the DOS patch again, but it go corrupted in transfer, thank the gods! So it deleted it. I tried again, and this time got the Windows Patch. That's really weird.

Sorry ... I was typing the other when your reply came back. E-mail me with links to the paint programs?

This link should work:
http://www.5star-shareware.com/Windows/ ... nload.html
It's a 30-day eval, but it's not too hard to fool - set your system date 1 year ahead, install the program, then set the date back where it belongs.
If TTDXC is detecting that you have the Windows version of the Patch, I don't see why it would get the DOS version. It works fine for me here.

I'm not sure why it did it. It's weird. It gets the wrong file the first time around pretty consistently, apparently. Then, because this one crashed, it finished it's little hiccup and fixed itself. Weird.

It's a known bug.
A workaround for the time being is to enable locomotion gui, by changing/adding in ttdpatch.cfg file :
locomotiongui on

I managed to get the crashlog to fit by raring it so here it is.

It must have a lot in it to be more than 2Mb! It's only a text file...

owen lifted the limit to 4mb a while ago but that was still too small for the un rared file.

by jonty-comp
Oh yeah.
Still, that means it's even bigger! I don't have any text files that are 4Mb, it must have about 1000 lines!
