>athanasios: Thanks for the links. I was also going to mention table breaking ;), but I see it has been fixed (thanks Lakie). I think we have plenty of references now for steel, googling 'steel coils', 'steel sheet' etc. gives us plenty to work with.

Due to some incorrect information we had , regarding the original artist of some of the cargo sprites used in ISR, we are redrawing the steel, copper and planks.

Here is my proposal for the redrawn planks. They use colours from mph's crates to give them a bit more variation. I have also tried to make the sizes of the stacks a bit more random, the old planks looked a bit too regular to me. Any comments or criticism would be welcome. :)

I think also that we should rename this tile from 'planks' to 'timber'. Would 'lumber' be better for the US English?

Yhea i like the new planks/lumber, they look more realistic and i like the slight colour changes.

Liking the planks :D
Wikipedia wrote:In the United Kingdom and Australia, "timber" is a term also used for sawn wood products (that is, boards), whereas generally in the United States and Canada, the product of timber cut into boards is referred to as lumber. In the UK steel is transported in a number of different ways.
Big slabs of steel are carried on flat bed wagons : http://www.wagonshots.co.uk/1280/sj035381.jpg
Coils are carried in these covered wagons: http://www.wagonshots.co.uk/1280/sj038282.jpg

As an aside...

I notice on that slab wagon, you guys don't have auto couplers? Is this common? Seems a rather old practice to use the hook couplers like that?

Erm, to be honest I'm not that hot on couplings... As far as I know only new wagons have auto-couplers, ie, the latest container flats and coal hoppers, the rest still involve clambering around in the nice dangerous area between the loco and the wagons. Because most freight in the UK now runs in fixed formations the only thing that needs to be removed is the loco not individual wagons (unless there is damage).

Ah, so most of the rakes with these older couplings wouldn't involve much shunting then? Thanks for the info :)).

Sorry to stray from the topic like that

None of the rakes really involve shunting to be honest, Some do to be (un)loaded but not really. Just a case of shoving the loco on the other end and clearing off again.

Same here in Dutchyland. We even have passenger trains without auto couplers (well, those wagons are borrowed from the DB, but still...)

I'm drawing up some stations of my own, and I'm doing a small dedicated goods station. I'm wondering, can I borrow some crates and forklifts from you guys? I know where to get the original sprites, and I'm pretty sure they're under a free license anyway, but I thought it'd be a good idea to ask first :).

Also, those planks look awesome mart3p, looking forward to the next release.

If you're after my forklifts - no problem, free to use with attribution ;) Sprites on my site (link below)...

cheers,

Andy

The piles themselves look good, but the (dis-)organisation of the piles!? It could never look like that - neighbor piles should be in the same direction, then free tiles for driving and then maybe piles in the other direction. But that might be 'difficult' to code?

im on the nip of trying to create something like this:
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=28867

would you guys mind if i did use ISR-grapics for it? Im not yet sure witch ones, and what and when and why, but im gonna make a try :)

Well, the arrangement of the piles is the one thing that hasn't been changed from the existing version. ;) The screenshot just shows the piles randomised as built. The player can of course choose to build the tiles in rows, with roads or plain tiles between. The orientation of the stacks on individual tiles can, to some extent be set, by overbuilding the tile until the desired layout is achieved.

As ISR is released under a GPL licence, you can of course use anything you want, provided your grf is also released under GPL and the relevant credits are included. Alternatively you will have to get permission from the individual artists.

I can tell you the artist for most graphics in ISR if you let me know what you want to use. I can also supply the sprite sheets if you want them. Good luck with your project. :D

Fine to use mine - if you want an industry entirely made up of vehicles ;)

Others may disagree, but I wouldn't want a port to look identical to ISR tiles - I think it would be confusing when trying to build stations. It's nice when the industry fits with the stations, but you can see clearly which tiles are the industry.

cheers,

Andy

I'd rather get individual permission. As much as the GPL is nice, I'd rather stick with attribution, less restrictive for me in the long-run. I'd really rather not blanket-license my whole set as GPL, since it contains assets from another oldbie sprite artist who's no longer with us. He gave me permission directly to use his artwork, but me licensing it as GPL would allow other to potentially use his artwork in ways he would rather they weren't used.

I'm just after the crates at this stage, since andy has given me permission for his forklifts. mph drew them, correct?

Thanks :D

>Aegir: I agree it is preferable to get individual permission. Yes, the crates were drawn by mph. :)

Thanks everyone for your positive remarks about the new timber graphics. I now fell encouraged to show you the proposed steel/copper. ;) Steel and copper will use the same sprites and are coloured using a re-colour sprite. Again comments or criticism are welcome.

Its alright. Feel free to use them. In fact, for the record, anyone can use the crates I drew.

Oh, and just in case - here you go.

Cheers mph, that's excellent. I can start to knock these stations on the head and get some sprites ready for myself to code :).
