The ECS specs may be fine for the coding veterans, but to me it's just a big fat ???
Other than coding industries (for ECS), making a vehicle set compatible with ECS is more than simple, just add a cargo translation table:
Code: Select all
//------------------------------------------------------------------
// cargo translation table
//------------------------------------------------------------------
//
-1 * 134 00 08 01 20 00 09
50 41 53 53 43 4f 41 4c 4d 41 49 4c // PASS COAL MAIL
4f 49 4c 5f 4c 56 53 54 47 4f 4f 44 // OIL_ LVST GOOD
47 52 41 49 57 4f 4f 44 49 4f 52 45 // GRAI WOOD IORE
53 54 45 4c 56 41 4c 55 50 41 50 52 // STEL VALU PAPR
46 4f 4f 44 46 52 55 54 46 49 53 48 // FOOD FRUT FISH
57 4f 4f 4c 50 4f 54 41 53 41 4e 44 // WOOL POTA SAND
47 4c 41 53 57 44 50 52 44 59 45 53 // GLAS WDPR DYES
46 45 52 54 4f 4c 53 44 52 46 50 52 // FERT OLSD RFPR
56 45 48 49 50 45 54 52 42 52 43 4b // VEHI PETR BRCK
53 55 4c 50 43 4d 4e 54 46 49 43 52 // SULP CMNT FICR
4c 49 4d 45 54 4f 55 52 // LIME TOUR
and include hooks for those new cargoes in your action03s.
And the discussions are still running about it - is it really a sitting target?
Discussions are about George´s ECS
implementation, not about the ECS specs. The ECS spec is stable "since years".
Additionally, I have enough work with the original cargo, who needs to draw 16 variations of each wagon (not really, but you get my point).
You don´t need to. I.e., all bulk cargo could be done by using a recolour CB in-game. So for cargoes like coal, grain, iron ore, potash, sand, fertiliser, oil seeds, sulphur, cement and lime only one graphical representation would be needed. Feel free to contact me in case you´re interested in learning how to do it.
Regarding your graphics, these look really good. I like it. Will there be special iron ore waggons for the LKAB?

That "ECS extension" .grf doesn´t contain any new graphics. It just modifies cargo slots and bits, its nothing more than a quick hack. Real graphics are only available in DBXL v0.9, which I´m currently working on.

Do what now? A cargo color to add to the already-existent 2 company colors? And 4096 distinct recolor sprites? Or are you planning to give up 2CC instead?

I´ve never used 2cc and won´t do in the future. And from what I´ve seen here I don´t think that Anders would use it either.

OK. This part I think I understand. The problem seems to be when I want to use the same set in different climates - it looks to me there will be a lot of conditionals spread out all through the GRF, as there isn't room for a unified CTT over all the climates? And I definitely don't see how to distinguish between different cargo having the same label?
[...recolor CB...] Feel free to contact me in case you´re interested in learning how to do it.
Yep, I'm interested, please PM or mail me. Although you should note that I'm still doing all my coding with GRFMaker, which may hamper my understanding and ability to really make use of the feature (OTOH, it might also trigger an interest, in me, for trying to add missing functionality into GRFMaker).

Thank you! As for the ore wagons I think they are in LKAB style? Were you thinking of a particular wagon? Link?
I'm also pretty tired of ore wagons for the moment, feel more like drawing a TGOJ style Ma engine, as they actually passed (passes?) here in Eskilstuna on their way from G to O.

Hi Anders, here comes links and pictures of the trains and liveries I asked for.
First of all, me and my friends wish to se the new X2 livery. Useful pictures on this link:
http://www.jarnvag.net/vagnguide/X2.asp
We also wish to se more company colors of the Swedish regional train Regina. X-trafik (red), Västtrafik (yellow) and SJ (light blue) would be very nice.
Pictures here:
http://www.jarnvag.net/vagnguide/X50.asp
In the southern part of Sweden the X31 "Öresundståget" is very common. At peak hours the trains are set up with 3 units together. Pictures and data on this link:
http://www.jarnvag.net/vagnguide/X31.asp
Finally on our wish list, X60 in SL colors. The 6-car long commuter train have been delivered to SL (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik) in a total number of 71 units.
Link with pictures here:

Tack på förhand

X2, you should know by now about the bump rules
This thread had been dormant since 30th November 2007.

Pardon? What are you on about? This guy´s supplying valuable input. And I bet he´s been asked by Anders himself to place it here.

As
mb says, I asked X2 to put his wishes in this thread, to have it all in one place. Just because nothing seems to have happened for a long time in this thread it doesnt necessarily mean "dead and gone...", there is actually *some* background activity. But as with most projects here, Real Life has a habit of interrupting now and again. For the moment I have summer vacation, which for a house owner means lots and lots of small jobs to finish...
Don't worry
X2- the Swedish Trains lives, and will be added to, there is just no guarantee when it will happen! I will look at your suggestions and decide if I want to do them or not.
Just a quick reaction:
X2 gray - I *hate* that colour, the trains look unfinished. It will be put at the end of the ToDo
Regina - Which one is the SJ blue? What's the difference to the TIM one?
X31 - this one has been drawn by Purno, so for the moment it is quite far at the end of the list.
X60 - this one looks difficult

Let's put it on top of the ToDo (just after some more goods wagons). Unfortunately, most of the pattern is less than a pixel wide, so it will be very difficult to get it 'right'. Maybe the 'image' will get through anyway...
Do you know of any more picture sources for Swedish trains? Plain side views are scarce, and it would be good to see the trains together with others that are already done, to get the right proportions.

Since this thread got bumped recently, I noticed your credits uses my old nickname. Maybe you could change it to this one?

Just a little reminder that this thread is not dead (it's only pining for the fjords...). ' I have actually got a little drawing done, and ended up with a Hector Rail engine (141) and some containers. No update to the grf yet, I need to get the Green Cargo containers drawn too, and then put a lot of containers on a lot of wagons, and then code it all...

Good news Anders! Nice to see you're still working on the set! Especially since it's the only one I'm using atm... well, apart from MB's DBXL, but that's mostly because I need wagons...

You know Anders, I like your drawings. They do fit SJ´s material best. O/c, it´ll be still a long way to go for you, getting your set complete, but unavoidable, certain things will take a while. More so today than in the pioneering days of TTDPatch, where a "set" could be done in 10 minutes.
Hopefully you´ll get the slant views as nice as this ones.

Michael

All in good time! I'm trying to add some new graphics and at the same time remodel Vasa! But pictures will be posted eventually - in the proper place!
