@one billion daleks
The new version with support for halftile foundations will only work in the nightlies: http://www.openttd.org/nightly.php
If you want to stick to 0.5.3 you have to use an older version: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... 9&start=88

a-ha!
Yes, I applied the old version and sure enough, bricks are appearing now ... that's much better!
Thanks so much for that tip frosch!

Right then. Had a little idea. This is the result. Some turntables, any opinions? I feel they are a bit "clean" at the moment.
edit: made it a bit less clean.

Turntables!
Eye candy of course (Unless you've got a patch we're not aware of) but perfect for scenarios and screen shots.
Question! Will the track across the table be usable for trains? Code this as a waypoint and that would work.
Nice job!

Re: Ameecher's NewGRFs: LATEST RELEASE: Brick Foundations II
Couple of ideas swimming around in my head. The idea is to have it as a station tile so that locos can go onto if you should so wish. That genius Lewis though had a good idea. Using a similar idea to the Industrial stations renewal and have it so that if the turntable is naturally against the track but when a train enters the PBS block it turns towards the train like the doors on the shed opening when a train enters the PBS block. Comprende?
Lots of ideas for this set that is developing here... As if I haven't got my fingers in enough pies already!

Ci senor! Pure genius! (Keep Lewis away from the patent office!) Would be interesting to see a train approach from the side as another train is crossing though.Comprende?

Re: Ameecher's NewGRFs: LATEST RELEASE: Brick Foundations II
Well, unfortunately it wouldn't be possible to have this as a crossing due to it having to be a station tile. So you could only have it physically going one way despite it aesthetically going both ways.

Gavin: Looks a bit silly in the corners, but other than that, it looks quite good.
Pity we can't have junctions on stations.

Re: Ameecher's NewGRFs: LATEST RELEASE: Brick Foundations II
That was just a mess around with currently available .grfs
Now then, brick or concrete? Brick is more realistic for when original turntables were installed but I think I've drawn it to bright. Needs to be a fair bit darker.
Edit: christ that looks hideous! Not enough colour differentiation.
Edit2: added a new brick version, opinions on this one?

[turntables]
That reminds me that I tried turntables myself some years ago, before I gave up on this. (Because it cannot be done properly.
)
Instead, I had chosen the traverser solution. With PBS and checking for path reserving, some nice effects can be realised with that solution.
(Uhm. I see that these are all "old" sprites. I´m sorry, but ATM I can´t produce any more recent stuff ... maybe next year, hehe.
)

Re: Ameecher's NewGRFs: LATEST RELEASE: Brick Foundations II
A nice set of graphics. The idea was to just create something that is essential to the old steam depots even if it doesn't work properly. Of course, it can be used to turn a loco at lightning speed, so long as trains reversing at end of line and stations is on.
As has been discussed on #tycoon was using PBS checks for reservation to turn the table towards the approaching locomotive, I assume in a rather similar way to your traverser.

Re: Ameecher's NewGRFs: LATEST RELEASE: Brick Foundations II
Nice idea Ameecher. Funnily enough, I thought about doing one a few months back but I didnt start it as I thought we wouldnt be able to get a roundhouse looking right. I suppose they can be used for just turning though, cant they? Still, nice work.
I prefer the concrete, by the way.

Turntables looking good but I thing, it's impossible try to function implementation to patch...
I've got my own try of turntable coded to game as piece of non-track tiles for station...

Re: Ameecher's NewGRFs: LATEST RELEASE: Brick Foundations II
That's very good. I think having it as a non-track tile is a bit restrictive however, because if you have it as a normal station tile at least trains can go over it, even if in only 1 direction.

The positioning is interesting, given the unusal bending of rails in TTD.Pnaky wrote: I've got my own try of turntable coded to game as piece of non-track tiles for station...
Maybe one day we will reveal all our secret results on turn tables, hehe.I thing, it's impossible try to function implementation to patch...

Well, if the table is a non-track tile, he could use any kind of animation to it. OTOH, when done as a standard tile, you could have used it by ordinary trains w/o problems.Ameecher wrote:I think having it as a non-track tile is a bit restrictive however, because if you have it as a normal station tile at least trains can go over it, even if in only 1 direction.
Maybe it´s possible to have both? In an only slightly limited way?

Anyway, I think this would be only of interest to those hardcore realism lads ...

Indeed it is, It looks like the turntable is spread across 2 tiles.michael blunck wrote:The positioning is interesting, given the unusal bending of rails in TTD.Pnaky wrote: I've got my own try of turntable coded to game as piece of non-track tiles for station...
As for the hardcore realism, I think I can sit in that camp, although, I let some things go because they just won't work in TTD.

Well, hopefully it´ll be DBXL 0.9, and this surely will be a really good one. I´ve just taken a look on Ameecher´s (Hoho! Back on-topic, slightly) and Badger´s screenshots and I must say, most of the trains now look quite different but much better.wallyweb wrote:Now I really have to wonder what Michael has cooking in that secret lab of his. Tell you what then Michael, how's about releasing v0.9 so that we can see for ourselves then?
