allright now I'm confused
HOW can you get newstations in OpenTTD?

by MeusH
Put the .grf file in /data/ folder and add the file's name to [newgrf] section in openttd.cfg

Thats yust the way to install any newgrf on openttd but I always thought that it wasn't possible to add newstations in open ttd.
I tried it now but i get nothing.

OT you need the lastest nightly, your integrated seem to be outdated /OT
newstation is one of the best things ever coded for this game, this really allow to customize the game how you want (limited to current sprites)
maybe one day will be possible to have so many graphic tiles to recreate "fake" realistic things

Oh, yes now i see thanks a lot
And the great people made the nightly

This is the preview of the switchyard, now I have enough elements to make it look nice:
I'll post soon the new version of the harbor & freight station, and the switchyard sprites to be coded.
How's that going, Lancelot? When you complete the docks and the floating docks, we can have 3 cathegories:
container freight station: with container tiles and platforms, truck parking and track cranes
harbor: with the warehouses and the cranes; and Lancelot's matching docks and floating docks
switchyard: with all the new sprites

I wonder, Sanchimaru, whether you will be coding the switchyards to have trains running on them?
Obviously you can't have the trains using the actual points and stuff but can you just have the train running on the original track?
Either way, looks nice

Thanks, Dave!
Indeed, the trains can run on some tracks. In that graphic you can see 4 real tracks and some fake tracks coming out from the real ones. The fakes are just decoration, they can't really be used. But the others do.

Well, here is the file: It's a ZIP containing the sprites to be coded
I planned it so that it is divided in 3 station types with their sub-cathegories:
Container Freight Station
Harbor
Switchyard
The switchyard has a lot of sub-cathegories, so that it is fully customizable.
Oracle: you did an excellent work coding the previous version, will you lend us your skills once again with this one?
Lancelot: how are you doing with the sprites?

Pretty cool, but I think the harbour set's roads have always needed turning tiles.

Lorries can't exactly do a three point turn now, can they?

Posted: 14 May 2006 12:31
by White Rabbit
I don't understand why not, since the lorries in the set are of the same size as default TTD lorries.

I was agreeing with your post, but if you say lorries can turn at the end of the roads, I don't see why you suggested turning points for lorries?
A three point turn is completely different, btw.

I'm just interested to find out what the distribution license on this newgrf set is. I use it on my OpenTTD nightly server, and have made it available as part of a larger bundle for clients to download from the server's page. This is important, because if I send people to an official download site they may well end up with a more recent version than the server, which will lead to problems.
So, I'm going through the server newgrfs and will only be including those I can legally redistribute, as of this weekend.

Currently there is no "official" site for it. In this thread we post the latest progress and there is a link to the download in my signature.
Now that I've made a whole new set of sprites, we'll have to wait until someone codes it.

So, am I allowed to redistribute? The reason I ask is that an OpenTTD game requires that all players, and the server, have exactly the same newgrf, versions and all. Because the downloads in forum threads often get updated with more recent versions, players will often find themselves with a more recent version than on the server, leading to them getting the boot as soon as a (non-cosmetic) difference shows up.

I don't see any problem with that, you may proceed.

Many thanks; and I'm especially grateful, as this is a station set of which I am fond.

Sanchimaru,
Could I use some of your harbour graphics for industry sprites (for the UKRS, and possibly other industry sets in the future)?

by Sanchimaru
Sure thing, Pikkabird. I cans end you a file with the sepparate elements so that you can use them freely. If you want it, just tell me where should I send it to you.
