I am surprised about this landzoning. It makes absolutely no sense! Why
should a country grant access rights for companies by territory
boundaries?
I know this territory thing only from gangster clans ("this part of the

In fact, I suppose that this landzoning has been created to avoid
competition between Highway semi-public companies. Highway consequently may
be considered as a public service like the other transportation system
(subway, trams, city busses...), even in unpopulated area (where they aren't
free).
There is many thing that are controlled by a public company in France
(railways, power, water, gas, post office, phone, city transport...)

It's exactly the same in Spain, except that the idea of private
companies building and running toll motorways is much more recent than
in France. Aumar, the company that owns the Mediterranean Motorway
(E15 - A7) between Valencia and Alicante is very unpopular and many
people (including me!) prefer to use the slower but free old road, the
N332.

There is the same problem in France, even between two highways:
Lets have an example:
An English tourist and a French one which lives in Calais both want to go to
Nice for holyday. The English is afraid of getting lost, so he takes the
simplest way: Calais -> Arras -> Reims -> Lyon -> Marseille -> Nice: he will
enter in the paying zone as soon as he has arrived.
The French is stingy and go first to Dunkerque (for free), then to Lille
(for free), and to Arras (for free). He didn't left the Highway network but
he starts paying 100 kilometers after the English (and helped the traffic
jams between Dunkerque and Lille).

If 3DTT is to mirror real life, if the price is set too high, people
won't use it!

Of course, but tourists always prefer Highways rather than roads...

If we're talking about real life, you're right. If it weren't for the
tourists, the A7 would be very empty.

From Alicante to Valencia (150km) is about 1500 pesetas (6 pounds). I
don't know the exact price, as it isn't a journey I would make, living
in the middle.

From Benissa to Benidorm, 30Km, a trip I am *very* familiar with, it's
320 pesetas. It saves maybe 20 minutes over the free N332.

Do you still have to pay a road tax on top?

Yes, on a complicated scale according to where you live and how big your
car is. My Peugeot 306 works out at about 15.000 pesetas a year.
Diesel is 100 pesetas a litre.

What do you need this distinction? As I wrote every passenger will have its
own personality and there will be special unique passenger-attracting
buildings (Cologne Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, Neuschwanstein Castle,
Colosseum, Stonehenge, Disneyland), so your wishes will be more than served.

But I tell you: I won't construct them all, we will need help when the 3D
construction tools are completed.

Not difficult in a general way - near the coast or major cities,
especially the former.

What about a new type of "industry". A tourist attraction, which
accepts passengers but doesn't generate any of its own. Instead, later
in the "day" it offers the same number as it received to return to their
origin.

It would also need food, and maybe develop a bank to deal with the money
it's taken!

Hey hey! I didn't want to make sub-sims for every company!
Banks will be no special buildings in 3DTT since there is a bank in every
town. But maybe there will be something like Fort Knox where to deliver
gold, diamonds and whatsoever.

reason as banks.
But there will be an industry <miss the word> 'Großhändler' (that is a big
shop where the little shops do shop). It will accept every type of consumer
products and dispatch it in the city (in the cities nearby).
Of course in the 70's there could appear a building called 'shopping center'
but these buildings have never railway stations, people arrive in their
cars.
Maybe the player could deliver good by lorries.

I think it would be similar to the TT England scenario with your names at
your locations but more subtile. You would have to click the buildings to
read the names.
Of course you can do this yourself by the scenario editor. You even could
bring in your houses as they are looking in real.

I know what you mean. The nearest equivalent in Britain is what they
call the cash-and-carry.

Not true if you use Britain (or even Spain) as your model. There's a
big shopping centre in North London, Brent Cross, which is very well
served by both bus and train. I know Lakeside (Essex) has a bus
station, and I believe they even built a station (Chafford Hundreds or
something) to serve it.

Then there's the Metro Centre near Gateshead which has its own train
service!

In my part of the world there is an enormous complex being built on what
was previously scrubland at Finestrat, and the "Trenet", our local
railway line, has already opened a new station to serve it.
Not everybody has a car, and these centres need to have good public
transport in order to attract business.

Peter,

In many areas of the US, the shopping malls and plazas are commonly
serviced by near-by trains, as well as people traveling to them by cars.

I have lived across the US, and as long as the area has developed
transit, there is either a train stop near by or a bus that will go from
the train to the shopping area.

It is getting to the point in many areas where this will be the total
norm in the future, with traffic problems getting the way they are, and
projected to continue to get in the future.

So having trains as well as buses going to and from shopping areas would
be a VERY excellent idea, I would think.
