Indeed I was.
My bad.

Vomiter they may be, but they're still the train that re-launched the railways on this side of the country.

True, they might not be as interesting to sad buggers like myself, but comparing Leeds-Birmingham reliability between now and the last year of unrefurbished HSTs and veteran 47s (just observed as a semi-regular user, mind) tells it's own story.

Rather have the 2tph across the entire XC network (many of them now doubled up) than only a few HSTs a day!

I do wonder if VXC/the SRA (whoever's decision it was) went a bit far when they redrew the XC franchise map though. It was a shame Brighton fell off the true Intercity network for example, and I missed the Liverpool/Preston-Taunton runs once they were gone!

I still somewhat lament the loss of the Aberdeen/Dundee - wherever (Penzance?) via the WCML XC route, as I have moaned about several times. Used to like getting that to Warrington Bank Quay instead of having to change in Edinburgh. But oh well, c'est la vie.

A little thing comes from my area : No need for double-deck trains !

Cheap trains - Many passengers are sometimes unticketed

What do you get if you late to work :

A bit expensive one - But that's happen every morning and afternoon workday trains.

Sorry, these may be too ugly for you, but it's still considered normal here...

Is that Indonesia? I always did find it funny that Japan Railways exported some old stock there, complete with signboards in Japanese (correct Japanese too!)

I was walking along side and standing in front of one of those beasts Monday last week. You really don't get much appreciation for size unless you're on ground level.

Jamie - Certainly not Peterborough.

A bay that's no longer there I believe! You can just see the Unilever factory on the left.

And this loco is unbelievably arousing haha.

Yeah, the Bay was going last time I was there, they are rebuilding the Whole station pretty much.

On the topic of station rebuilding I wonder how Reading is coming along. Last time I was there most of the canopies had gone and the platforms were about 1/3 of their normal width with wooden boards up to separate passengers from building work. That would have been about 6 weeks ago. Going through on sunday and should have about half an hour standing in the rain without shelter. Fun fun fun!
