Total Bridge Renewal Set: version 1.12

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

Anyways, I'm not interested in one of those odd license models. :P As long as Purno don't agree with either GPL or CC-BY-(NC-)SA one can request the graphics with him and the source code with me.

At the moment I don't really have time to create a metro-track TBRS (see list in sig ). Besides I rather wait for railtypes to be finished for OpenGFX, as a major recode is in order then anyhow.

Anyone knows why I keep getting this error:

"Loading TTRS bridges is useless, you should disable TTRS bridges if you lack of free memory"?

Try reading that as "... should disable TTRS bridges to reduce memory usage".

tasgh, it doesn't really affect gameplay, but you can through parameters shut the bridges off from Total Town Replacement Set. They cannot be used in-game with the Total Bridge Renewal set. It saves CPU :)

I have a problem: Tube Steel and Tube Silicon bridges are unchanged, except for road bridges. This is present in both TTR and TBR grfs, no matter which is loaded first and I played with parameters a bit to no effect. I'm out of ideas :| Every other bridge type seems to work fine- I love the pack!

Attached is a demonstration that my bridges are mismatched, as well as the NewGRF setup I have... any ideas? (grfs not shown are large ships and hoverbus)

Edit: Now my Concrete Viaducts are showing up as the brown-variety tube steel bridges...

Look to the TBRS Tracking Table for a general answer. Based on your posted picture and the parameters you set for the TTRS then your grf setup is correct. The TBRS should be below the TTRS on the grf list.

These bridges are not left unchanged, they have minor palette changes for the white tubular, the original OTTD implementation turns the whole sprite to grayscale, which look very stange with monorail, and railroads. Also I have fixed the pillars for them.

Oh, I see. Well then nevermind :( I like the road tube steel/silicon sprite better than the base sprite.

Thanks for the replys

Kinda odd nobody has tried contacting me about this, but I notice while occasionally checking a few topics at these forums.

Anyways, I'm not a license expert but I simply want to prevent people doing things I don't want to. Unfortunately that means I have to make my license more strict than sometimes is desirable. Besides, I still would like to be informed what's happening to my graphics, mainly because I just am curious about if they're still being used, and of course I just like to hear my graphics are still being requested for projects, as that is kinda of a compliment to my graphic art.

To get to the point; I've always requested metro tracks support for any bridge set, and that automatically means I have absolutely no objections of anyone to edit the metro track graphics in order to make any bridge set fit that metro tracks. As far as I know, that doesn't require anyone to edit the actual metro tracks, but rather using parts of the graphics in their own set of graphics, which I hereby grant anyone permission for. (That is, using my metro graphics in order to make any bridge set (and lets include road-sets, station-sets, and any similar set as well) match the metro graphics).

But as a kind request, please send me a screenshot or something when you built in metro support. I'd love to admire it :)

If editing the metro files is necessary for other purposes, I'd like to be informed, and you can always contact me by forum PM or E-mail. (I just like to be kept informed about the ongoins of my graphics, and the license kinda forces you to do so, fortunately ;) )

Anyways, good to see you guys working on the bridge set and metro track support! :) Keep up the good work!

I don't find that odd at all. It's making people jump through loops; technically I wasn't even allowed to fix your sprites in order to remove bugs from the set itself which you contributed to the 2cctrainset. http://dev.openttdcoop.org/issues/527

What's so hard about PMing me something like "Hey, we'd like to use your metro sprites in our bridge set so they have metro support. Is that ok to you?"? Talking about all this license struggle takes more effort than a simple, kind PM. Nobody needs licenses as long as everyone's satisfied.

technically I wasn't even allowed to fix your sprites in order to remove bugs from the set itself which you contributed to the 2cctrainset. http://dev.openttdcoop.org/issues/527
But practically you are allowed. Why would I object bufixing? You got my permission now, so now you're allowed technically too.

Ammler has contacted me by PM about licenses, and I expect a friendly and cooperative discussion on how to solve this. Sometimes it looks like we're acting as enemies, while both of us just got our wishes but a shared goal. I do want my graphics to be used for good stuff just as much as you do, I just want to be sure they don't get used for bad stuff. (e.g., things done with/to my art I do not agree with).

I just want to provide people with an enhancement to their playing experience with OpenTTD. But I don't care at all how they use it (actually I would like to encourage to re-use, enhance and bug-fix it!) and how they re-use it as long as they acknowledge the work they build upon - but I don't want or need a say in that. If they re-use it in a way I find un-funny - not my problem, but also that keeps the game alive, II don't have to find it funny or pleasing. They may not say that I endorse it anyway (endorse != acknowledge). And I want to have the possibility to ship my stuff along with OpenTTD in a bundle.

IMO the need to ask for permission is detrimental to a) encouragement to re-use and build upon b) bundling with OpenTTD and c) makes in the case of the 2cctrainset the whole work (yours, mine, DJN's) useless should I leave the community. I cannot and don't want to promise to stick around forever.

Therefor our goals obviously ARE different and I cannot do anything about my goals as long as I use your graphics with a -ND license as it always applies to a whole grf. The bundling with OpenTTD actually requires GPL.

You make it sound like I'm being un-cooperative, while I am actually trying to find a solution as much as you are.

I'm still discussing things with Ammler in PMs about this, but I'm quite sure he'll inform you of any updates.

Sorry, I don't mean to say or imply you're un-cooperative. Actually every time I contact you're very cooperative. My concern is beyond the time when either you or me _can_ be cooperative for whatever reason and about the message / spirit which a grf caries by its license (free to copy, modify, whatever you like ... vs. only copy) :-)

Purno, we aren't worried about today or tomorrow.

We're worried about what happens when you die. By US law[0], the copyright doesn't expire until 75 years after you die, and for those 75 years, only those who got permission from you while you were alive can modify your work.

GPL, BSD, CC BY-SA, and other copycenter and copyleft licenses solve this problem by providing blanket everyone-can-modify permissions. Although the copyright still holds for those 75 years, the license that permits modification and distribution also still holds.

[0] Other countries are likely similar. IANAL.

Well, I guess it can't hurt to tell you guys Ammler kinda convinced me to switch to GPL in our PM conversation. We're still discussing the best way *how* to switch. :)

Purno's signature wrote:As of now, all my graphics are licensed under GPL.
Because Purno is a very busy pixel artist (currently less busy with pixels, but who knows ;-), it would be too much work to search for all related projects/threads and announce the license change. I suggested him to make a note in the signature like DanMacK did some time ago.

I hope, this is fine for you all, at least it is for me.

Very much thanks again. Purno.

Edit: If you are looking for sources from Purno, please don't hesitate to ask him, so he knows, who likes to use his graphics, but also very much is already available from our DevZone. (2cc Train Set, Dutch Station Set, Dutch Train Set, Total Bridge Renewal Set, OpenGFX, metro set might be next now...)
