isn't it an idea to release the current version, and let the players do the playtesting. call it v1.0 RC1, and we'll get somewhere. 100 playtesters are better than 5.

I can agree to a release candidate, since indeed the team doesn't seem to have much time available, 99% is complete and a dev version leaked out already. I'd like to hear the other teammembers's opinion.

Fine by me, but with stripped content. I suggest 2-3 engines per era plsu 2-3 MU's per era and only the early goods wagons. Otherwise there is nothing to look out for anymore.

Well wouldn't the idea be to 'test drive' (as in debug) the whole set - what good is debugging just a small part of it?

Normally it would but we have no intention to give no support after we released the set anyhow. Meaning that errors that surface then will be dealt with.

Ehm... why spend time on stripping the set, rather than improving it? You're suggesting a teaser rather than a release-candidate to be tested. TBH, I don't feel much for a teaser at this point, since stripping it would probably be as much work than just finishing the last few things which need to be finished.

Why release a release candidate when we only have 1% work left?

To figure out what that last 1% IS - the bug reports will tell!

agreed. thing is that people can play with the set as it is now, bugfixes and updates are to be released later on. stripping would degrade the set.

IMO there is no sense in stripping the set for this. It is a RC which means that everything needs to be tested, not only a few trains. I'd say release all!

I say release all but I see no sense in releasing a RC that actually is the set. It's not that I don't see the added value of having a bug-free grf but the first people who test the set until 2050 aren't available right from releasing an RC. We have to wait for that and I don't think it weighs out the benefit of releasing the set and then fix bugs as they appear.

If you strip the set down, how will you know if there are bugs in the ones that didn't make the teaser?

Hell I don't mind either way, I probably won't play with the set anyway...

That's the whole point in a nutshell: do we release a teaser, a release candidate or the set? If the set is 99,9% done I don't know what keeps us from releasing it. Bugs will appear anyhow, despite our greatest care.

that is actually true. we could also release the current version, and update from there on, if needed.

is this a plan, all?
