Explanation needed for some of the options
I couldn't find these explained in the Wiki. For others the meaning might be very obvious, but I did not get it - so if I could get some brief explanation, it'd be nice.
Town roads layout = ?
Initial city size multiplier = ?
Town controlled noise level = ?
Plane speed factor = ?

Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
Town controlled noise level: Instead of having fixed at most 2 airports in a town, you can have as many as you like as long as you don't exceed some total noise level
Plane speed factor: Speed of planes that they really go instead of the displayed speed. 1/4 is TTD setting, 1 is more real, but makes playing with planes way too profitable

Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
Town roads layout: You may have noticed, towns expand on their own and build roads and new buildings for this. With this setting you can determine, how they will build their roads. You can choose from Original (like in TTD), Improved (better version of the first), 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, the last three will build in "Manhattan Style" with the numbers giving the size of the squares between the roads (in tiles). I think there is also "None", with this setting towns won't build any roads at all, so they can only expand, if you build roads for them - and therefore you can shape them how you like. "Random" will choose a different style for each town (but, I think, will never choose "None" for any town).
Initial city size multiplier: The higher this value, the bigger the cities will start compared to non-city towns. (I'm not 100% sure about this)

Also, when creating (generating) new map, what's this Smoothness variable?

The amount of trees which is placed on the map.Octopuss wrote:Also, when creating (generating) new map, what's this Smoothness variable?
Ok, maybe not. Maybe it's a measure how smooth the terrain will be: smooth mountains & bumps or steep ridges

Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
Thanks.
Oh I hate generating so much... Wish there was another level of the amount of towns option - ultra extra low

Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
I have one unreleased patch on my drive for this. Or at least I hope so, I will look for it tomorrow, if you want it.Thanks.

It added added shifted the options up one level, so the Normal or how it is called now was moved to High etc, so to Low left place for a new ultra low value.
Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
That sounds interesting. I am trying to generate nice 512x1024 map, but even at ultra low, the amount of towns is simply WAY too high!! Plus the distribution algorithm is maybe not too good, putting lots of towns close to each other..

Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
There is a patch for a more regular distribution of towns, I can't recall its name, but I remember it was in some patch packs.

I will look for it when I get home, I'm at work right now.
Re: Explanation needed for some of the options

Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
Look into the Development section, you may need to go some pages back.
EDIT: It seems I deleted the directory with the patch during my "big bang" when I was releasing some space for Call of Duty 4. Ooh, my OTTD directory had 1.9 gigabytes
I can make it again if you really wanted, it is not that hard.

I would love to.CommanderZ wrote: I can make it again if you really wanted, it is not that hard.
But it would "have to" work with any version as I usually update to new nightly often Ideal would be to make it slip into official releases (just like the town distance patch you pointed me to a while ago).
Re: Explanation needed for some of the options
You could also try to make or adapt a scenario using the scenario editor.
Recently I wanted to have a very flat map with just towns. After experimenting with the generator settings for a while without getting good results, I realized I could create a perfect flat map in the scenario editor in about 5 seconds (4 of which were how to find out how to generate towns).

Oh that's a good idea.
Speaking of scenarios, the lighthouses and transmitters are just eye candy, right?
