Well you're very welcome to re-use my graphics, but don't you find the scale strange in game? :o
The forklift is no more than 2m long in RL, but it fills the boat! :P

When I've got a moment, I'll see what I can do with the coaster to get a scale I'm happy with AND that the rest of you like (which is important on a collaborative set). I've got it in mind that this is not my set so feel free to tell me to bugger off at any point.

BTW I agree on the modification to the coaster mast - looks better.

cheers,

Andy

Nah, it's just got lost in translation  . I'm in the team (happy to contribute), but I don't want you guys to think I'm being bossy about the set. I didn't start it, I'm not drawing most of the graphics, and I'm not coding it, so it's not appropriate for me to be telling the main contributors what they can and can't do with the set. Does that make sense and sound fair?

lead@inbox, haven't had much of a chance to work on it the last couple days, but on my days off I'll be back at the shipbuilders :)

Andy, I'd say you have as much input into the set as the rest of us. Any contributor does. Suggestions are welcomed, don't think of it as being "bossy" at all.

Coaster revised for size - been discussing scale with lead@inbox on PM. I'm using the 20ft containers from ISR as reference. I started on the left with a short version, and then extended to a version which I prefer.

The length scale is about 75%, i.e. the hold is three containers long when IRL it would be four.
The width scale is about 66% - the deck is two containers wide, when IRL it would be three wide.
Windows etc. are drawn to match ISR vehicles (which are inspired by original TT road vehicle windscreens), a large window pane is a square of 4 pixels (2px by 2px). A porthole is 1px.

** Containers are drawn by Sanchimaru and used here without permission for mockup only. Do NOT use distribute those sprites as part of any set without correct permission.

Agree with the other posts about shape of hull and bow - what I've done to the bow isn't as nice as the original sprite and needs fixing, but I think finding the right scale is more important.

Capacity of a 20ft container is about 22 crates of TTD goods in the vehicle sets I use. With 6 containers on deck, that's 132 crates, plus whatever's in the hold, so it would be fair to set capacity between 150t and 250t. That's about right compared to small RL coasters, and a good replacement for the GCV in MB ships.

And just for fun, here's a shipment of forklifts, and a rather large bulldozer:

These don't really work, the sprites are still too large, but it's closer.

By widening the deck maybe 1 or 2px more, and narrowing the wheelhouse, it would start to look pretty good as a river boat or for trading along the coast and between islands. I would like to make it longer, but we need to leave room for much bigger boats like the laker (which would be two or three times the length of this).

BTW I'm not aiming for the sprites to be perfectly in scale, that never happens in TTD (the forklifts are too big relative to the containers for starters), but I think it ought to all fit together nicely. In the teaser, I think the coaster is now more in keeping with Dan's trawler.

You wouldn't want to be shipping a D8 Dozer in an 80ft boat anyway, would you?

From now on I'll post nothing on the website till it's a complete sprite set.

Sanchimaru has said it's ok to use the containers in 2CC Ships (with attribution). He's sent me the sprite sheet - if anyone needs it PM me :)

I'm asking other artists about other cargo such as wood etc.

My wood isn't spectacular, but I got it on several cargo wagons.

Some more RL inspiration. The coaster is scaled from these two ships. I like the one with the cranes...

This one has an excavator on deck.

I particularly like this small car carrier:

Couple more nice ones:

> lead@inbox: I'm not so keen on drawing hull shapes. Do you want to try tweaking the hull shape on the coaster I've revised - using the pics for guidance (at about 75% scale compared to the containers).

Also, if you fancied doing the car carrier, that would be really neat. Again 75% scale - it would be really easy to judge the width using the car sprites from ISR 0.7.1.
