I hope that's enough for estimating TE.
No, not really, See above.

:oops: Sorry, I forgot axle scheme for MAVAG. It's C-2nv.

Mmh, I wonder what this means? Does it have three axles (all driving) or five (+ 2 running axles)? Or does the "2" refer to the number of cylinders? But then it should be behind the "n" ...

OTOH, a weight of 80 tons seems to be a bit much for only three axles, however?

It has only 3 driving axles (and not running, 0-6-0). Probably I made mistake during writing data in museum for "2nv". :oops:
80 tons is for locomotive and tender together. Unfortunately I haven't found separate weights (and I had difficulties to find data for this loco, maybe they are not accurate).

[MAVAG 126]

Yes, there are only 15 hits for "MAVAG 126" in Google:

- 1 for your own Serbian RailSet page,
- 13 in tt-forums,
- and only 1 (!) extern, on the hungarian page http://www.freeweb.hu/futohaz/275.html

:P

So, the data situation for this engine is very thin.

And because we don´t have details we´d need to calculate TE for those three steamers, all we can try to do is calculating the highest possible TE, with regards to "adhesive weight" (see my sticky post here). However, we can´t do it for that 126 because you don´t have the weight of the locomotive alone:

TE_max = W * 9.81 m/s² * µ

"RAMA":
Power: 150 hp
Weight: 15 t
max possible TE: 44 kN (for µ = 0.3)

"Skoda"
Power: 400 hp
Weight: 40 t
max possible TE: 117 kN (for µ = 0.3)

Note, however, that this is the max possible TE with regards to force transmittable due to friction, I don´t know if the power of these locomotives would be sufficient to deliver that force. I.e., I doubt that the 400 hp of the Skoda would be able to generate 117 kN.

PS: you´ve chosen some very exotic engines, BTW.

Those data are by TTD default too, aren't they?

I know, I wanted this set to be historic set too, not for playing only. :wink: For example, I even haven't included famous CS-1 loco because of lack of data. :(

[TE for RAMA and Skoda]

> Those data are by TTD default too, aren't they?

Yes, that´s the way it works in TTDPatch, which simply takes the locomotives´ weight and multiplies it by 0.3. Luckily, for both of your engines "weight" is equal to "adhesive weight" (both have only driving axles) so TTDPatch´s default value is correct in this case.

You´re free to reduce that value if you want to, BTW. 8)

Did you try to visit a library? Before I got own books on railway stuff, I had found out that the library in the next town had a quite astonishing number of railway books. Maybe this helps ...

Well, not TBH. I was in railway museum only, and I doubt that libraries in other towns have more books than in Belgrade...
But that's good proposition anyway. :)

Finally I had some time to release new Hotfix: 24.05.2007.

- Added Michael's real tractive efforts for steamers (when there were no data, I estimated to have more reality), and of course, Michael is now added as one of set contributors :D ;
- Extended lifetime for "Leteci Beogradjanin" - 10 years;
- Readme is updated to inform about NG set incompatibility with basetunnels;
- I still haven't done nothing with long names, because there were no responses from Patch devs for my ask to make purchase list resizable (I suppose that's not possible, otherwise there will be some responds :wink: )

Enjoy! :D

Very expensive valuables refitting?

Post by PJF »

Firstly, I love the Serbian rail set. It's great to have such great and realistic looking engines. However when expanding my rail empire today, I hit a small snag.

The "Mail Van Daa" can be refitted to carry 5t of valuables instead of 11t of mail. Five tons isn't very much, but that's not what surprised me. It was the cost.

About $5000 (2,500 pounds) per carriage, about five times the cost of the original van. Ouch! Having the capacity to transport 25 tons of valuables on a train is comparable to the cost of the engine itself!

Is the cost of this refit intentionally high (we're replacing a flimsy mail carriage with an armoured van, and that wasn't cheap back in 1930), or have I managed to catch a bug?

For what it's worth, I'm using George's ECS files in a tropical environment on the latest nightly of ttdpatch. I can provide saved games, config files, and so on upon request.

Many thanks again for a great rail set!

First, thanx for compliments! :D

About high refit cost: it was intentional to make wagon which carries valuables more expensive that simple mail wagon. There were no special armoured wagons in Serbia (for valuables only), so I decided to make mail van refittable to them, of course, with some price. :wink: I discussed refit cost with George and we made decision to determine refit cost in that price. Of course, it's high, but benefit with valuables transporting is higher. :) . If you use set with ECS, all expences are slightly higher (and you've probably noticed that refitting passenger car Baat to carry torists is expensive too).

Which parameters are you referring to? Normally parameters are the same for TTDpatch and OTTD, you just set them inside OTTD instead of in the cfg file.

Parameter is needed for Narrow gauge tracks only. Set indeed needs no parameters.
And if you are playing with OTTD, appropriate topic is here. :wink:
(Mods/admins, is it possible to move those OTTD posts to appropriate topic, please?)

(EDIT: You just gave me idea: it should be fine to edit README with OTTD compatibility. mart3p has more experience in OTTD playing with this set, so he could maybe help here? :) )
