Awesome, I'm looking really forward to this. :D
Seconded - This could be a truly revolutionary feature.
Any chance of an early peek at this concept art Michael?

Don´t expect too much. This won´t be a breakthrough into unseen graphics´ realms like a new industry or such. It´s just riverbanks, nothing spectactular, but instead loads of rather uninspiring work (repeated for arctic, repeated for snow, repeated for desert, repeated for jungle - did I miss something? No, not toyland ...).

This is an awesome concept Oskar :D There are a couple of improvements that I'm sure are in the pipeline. At the moment, one cannot build a bridge over these new rivers, the system states "Object in the way". This, I'm sure is being fixed ;)

Only other thing I can think of would be to have Canals and rivers placable in the Scenario editor.

Is it not possible to code the river tiles as canal tiles (which can be bridged) but with the canal walls changed to water or shore?

Currently they are special water tiles, to make building and other stuff easier, result is, well most TTD Functions think: "This may be something like a ship depot or unknown structure, better don't touch it..."

I need to squezze the river feature somehow in the 4 lower bits of L3 (1bit used) so they can be sucessfull stored into the Landscape 3 Array when bridges are build. However currently I discuss internal Stuff with Michael if and how it is possible to add more variations to it which directly effect this, so currently I wait a bit how we can squeze our ideas into TTDPatch...

Here´s a very first screenshot of Oskar´s new river feature, which just reveals that the whole thing (graphics and code) needs a lot more work. 8)

What needs work in that screen shot? It looks quite good to me. 8)

Looks great, Michael.

Seems that there is a bit of a challenge ahead to blend the 'in-line' shores of your new tiles to the existing "outside" shores of the landscape sets. Viel Gluck :D
Many thanks to those who make OTTD and TTDP possible.

Well theres a building after the river, wich is not connected to a road for example.. Also one of the tiles seems to be drawn as a canal tile on top center.

But it still looks magnicifient, and i can't wait to see this feature in action next time i try TTDPatch.. :)

Yes, ships will be able to travel on them. Not across the rapids, though.

Currently the status of river: It's not useable because the code needs a cleanup optimize and fix session ... There are parts of code when drawing doing mostly the same, but still don't do the same and are written 4 times. I hope randomized action now works atleast.

Then there are parts that need a complete different concept, atleast the Landscape storeing needs to be different so bridges can be build over them...

This will influence how canals get drawn aswell, this may have some side affects while in the transition phase...

But can you build canals / locks over those rapids so they'll become usable by ships?

You have to build locks as before. But you can trade off building expensive canals.
