Private Traffic
I was reading through the history (of this area) and I've gotten an idea. What if there were private traffic going around, slowing down the bus system that you set up and makes up the idea that towns have roads even if there aren't buses or trucks running though them.

go read the forum more to find out why it isnt already done or why it wont be done.

I believe it won't work unless you make them vehicles. i.e. to have cars running around you would have to purchase them and pay running costs for them.

It's not as simple as the fact you'd have to buy them.
It would probably severely kill the game in terms of running speed due to the extra processing required to draw vehicles, compute routes (even random routes would have to be processed), etc.
Not worth the effort in my opinion.

It depends how many you had.Dave Worley wrote:It would probably severely kill the game in terms of running speed due to the extra processing required
Ridiculous town growth in OTTD notwithstanding, I think one vehicle per 500 town population in 1950, rising to one per 200 in 2000, would be plenty. A typical TTDP map might have 30 towns, average population 3000 late in the game. That's only 400-odd extra vehicles.
As for direction finding, make it so the vehicles pick random nearby towns and try to get to those towns. After a month, they go back home. After another month, they pick a new town to try and go to. Easy.
I doubt my game can handle 400 extra vehicles.PikkaBird wrote:Ridiculous town growth in OTTD notwithstanding, I think one vehicle per 500 town population in 1950, rising to one per 200 in 2000, would be plenty. It would be interesting to see how the mechanics of the game are altered by the addition of vehicles that get in the way of yours and your opponents which would then make it more difficult for your buses to get around and this will represent a challenge which will ultimately provide a good game. (unless you don't use buses).

I think what you said is correct. There would be too much work involved.Dave Worley wrote:TMWFTLB?
