[REQ] REALLY Generic, Basic Stations

Post by Raichase »

Just throwing this out there for those smart, Born Acorn types.

What we really need, are some really basic, run of the mill platform sprites to use for generic stations in our TTD world. Borns basic buffers (try saying THAT ten times fast) are an excellent step in the right direction, but we could ideally do more.

Dirt platforms, grass platforms that match the landscape, more generic industry stations etc, but all very basic, so that they can be used whatever the timeslot, with whatever the landscape, in whatever the scneario (be it Oz, Japan, UK, North America etc).

Any thoughts?

I believe Aegir(correct me, Aegir :p ) coded generic platforms that were simply the normal rail sprite from whatever landscape set is in use. I may have misunderstood your request, though

Yes, I remember those, but don't have the grf anymore. At any rate, it's only the tip of the iceberg, what about dirt surrounding the tracks, etc?

I have some old basic platform grf which include empty tiles and track on grass tiles. I assume they were part of the generic stations stuff. But I agree with Raichase, we need more gravel and dirt platforms - well not really platforms, but tracks on those things.

Well, thats not really what I was talking about. I was saying dirt platforms, as those used in the Industrial Stations Set. Simply replace the grass with appropriate grass to work with any climate, and add snow when above snowlevel instead of grass, and bingo.

Them be they.

So, BA, got any ideas? It was you I am principally interested in, figuring you'd have something knocked up to go with your buffers (which I can't get over, I might add).

Hope they will be available for all users :D Besides the dirt platforms we also need some gravel ones, like in the picture I posted above (the third row). Some paving stone stuff would also be a good extension.

In past I tried to do this myself, but it is not easy to create a random design that doesn't look repeated at longer platforms and especially on non track tiles...But when I look at your great buffers I don't doubt that you will make it

Raichase, I'm on it 8).

I'll post screenies up on my blog/here/wherever when I've got a bit more to show.

I'm planning on doing dirt, and gravel firstly. Fences will also be added as an added extra, with graphics stolen from trg1r.grf for the hedges, the white fences, and the stone walls.

Now, lemme get back to work...

Edit: This is what I have so far. I don't intend on adding too much more, save for some buffers to fit the two textures, dirt and gravel.

Gravel is shamelessly stolen from Cornelius' works, which were released in the GPL'd US Set, and also released at one point into public domain for use in other sets (Along with several other platform styles).

Dirt is a modified TTD game asset, fences are ripped straight from trg1r.grf.

I owe Aegir a beer or two. At least. I reckon everyone owes him a beer.

* DaleStan buys Aegir some American "beer".
* DaleStan runs away as fast as he possibly can.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
