Monthly Scenario Contest: Electing a category Maintainer

Post by Purno »

Hi all,

As you might already know SpComb and me are busy with making a website for a Monthly Scenario Contest. Every month a contest will be held for making scenarios (so not playing them) for TTDPatch, OpenTTD and Locomotion.

The idea is that you can register yourself on the website, which currently is being developed. After you register you can upload 1 scenario for each contest (that’s 1 scenario per category (TTDPatch, OpenTTD, Locomotion) per month. Each contest will have their own requirements. One for example could be that you’ve to build a realistic looking arctic scenario.

For each contest a jury will be elected. The jury will exist out of 5 members who can rate every scenario from 1 (bad) to 10 (good). This will give the scenario (and the creator) 5 to 50 points.

Now what I’d like to ask; Each category will have a category maintainer. A category maintainer will have the following tasks:
  • Make the objectives for each contest.
  • Confirm the automatic jury selection (to prevent spammers of ruining the votes).
  • Disqualify scenarios when they do not fit the objectives (which will give them 0 points).
As you probably understand, every category needs 1 maintainer. This topic is to select that maintainer for only the Locomotion category. Of course, I could just ask someone to be maintainer, but IMO that’s not completely fair. Everybody should have a chance. That’s why I made this topic.

You got two weeks to say you’re interested. At Tuesday, October the 4th I’ll mention everyone who stated their interest at the first post. Once done, no new names will be added. The next two weeks, until Tuesday, October the 18th everyone will be able to cast their vote. (If less then 10 people stated their interest I can hold a poll, if more, everyone should make a post with their vote). The one who wins will be elected as category maintainer. Whenever there will be a shared 1st place, it’s up to me what to do.

This topic is not for discussion about the Monthly Scenario Contests! We got other topics for that (we got topics here (TTD), here (TTD) and here (LoMo) for discussions)

Do not post if you are not interested.

Can a maintainer also be a competitor?

* Make the objectives for each contest.
Would this be something like "A half-hill, half-flat scenario with a few narrow passages between them & the industries placed cleverly" or "Deliver 10 000 goods by only planes in the ears 1930-1950"? How in-depth does it have to be?
* Confirm the automatic jury selection (to prevent spammers of ruining the votes).
Umm... What does this mean? Does the page have a "vote for this person to enter the jury"? Could you explain it a bit more clearly please? I'm sure it's all very clear inside your head but not mine ;)
* Disqualify scenarios when they do not fit the objectives (which will give them 0 points).
This requiring to download the map & looking around for anything contradictory to the objectives?

I'd be interested, if it isn't too much work.

The first thing you mentioned could be an objective indeed. It could be somewhat simplified since there doesn't really seem to be much interest for the scenario contest for Locomotion.

The Jury will exsist from 5 people who have subscribed themselves. All you have to do look if there aren't any n00bs in there which you know they'll mess up.

Well, generally the Jury will have to download every map and rate it. They'll also notice if a scenario doesn't fit the rules, and they can ask you to check it out and disqualify it.

It isn't really that much. Remember, there'll be only 1 contest every month.

I hope I did clear up things, if not, check out the other topics. I'd prefer this one not be used for discussion TBH. Thanks for you interest anyways.

Paasky, can I note you as someone who's interested in being category maintainer for the LoMo contest?

Looking at the current state of interest in this topic, I don't think anybody else is going to volunteer.

Yes you can.

It is very active, isn't it?
Hopefully people will be more interested in the scenario creation itself...

Subscribtion period is over.

The only subscriber is Paasky, which automatically makes him category maintainer.
