Roads are fun but trucks currently suck. So:

I'm wondering about a vehicle mod.

Firstly: Is it possible to create trucks and import them (and would anyone be willing to do so? I suck as a graphics artist but i'd do it if i'd have too)

Secondly: Is it possible to remove the maxlength of trucks?

Thirdly: What do people reckon to having three or four 'cabs' possibly of two kinds (speed or HP based) Then a number of trailers behind the cab.

So you could have a basic artic : Cab1 + Hopper Trailer

Or something a bit more hardcore Cab2 + Tanker Trailer + Tanker Trailer

Or something more australian: Cab4 + 4x Goods Trailers.

This i think could be done in a similar way to trains?

It might not look perfect, but i think it can be done (look at the size of the best mail car, tiny damn thing)

Can't *think*of a way to have trailers that look latched onto the cab though.

--not without editing the EXE = bad

Thirdly: What do people reckon to having three or four 'cabs' possibly of two kinds (speed or HP based) Then a number of trailers behind the cab.
--3 or 4 tractors? unrealistic and not worth the effort, trains have couplers on the front, trucks dont

So you could have a basic artic : Cab1 + Hopper Trailer
--possibly, would have to make a new truck with no cargo, and trailers for each cargo, then figure out how to get them all couplable (easy in theory...)

Or something a bit more hardcore Cab2 + Tanker Trailer + Tanker Trailer
--one tractor is enough, refer to earlier pics, just have newer trucks with higher HP and running cost, as well as cheaper ones with lower HP

Or something more australian: Cab4 + 4x Goods Trailers.
--same, just a very powerful+expensive truck, not 4 smaller trucks

Can't *think*of a way to have trailers that look latched onto the cab though.
--should be possible, i dont know how

U could always edit the trailers so you can connect several to 1 truck like a road train.

many have tried... all have failed so far
it will not let you add more than 1 trailer to a truck, and so far only the oil trailer works on the gen 3 oil truck

Yes. The 3d graphics programs most mentioned here are Blender and 3dsMax.

Yes and no. The image has a certain limit in pixel size. But your post here has suggested a way arround it.

In spite of what other people say, your suggestion is prototypic. This is exactly how trucks function here in the US. Furthermore, it should be possible to do it in the Locomotion.

Okay, for those of you who don't understand what he is suggesting: He wants to model what I have always heard called "tractor-trailer" setup. This means seperating the motive power of trucks from the cargo.

Less of the small trucks and more artic lorries, less of the picking from 8 or so trucks and more like picking a cab and a trailer.

Exactly :D

Where do i go from here though? the .dat files of the trucks?

That would be a good reference point, yes. The ones you should look at is ttruck3 and ttrail3 (I think). They have several important lines already set up. But what is needed first is the 3d model to base the .PNGs from. This is something that will have to be drawn from scratch, unless it can be imported from MSTS. You could edit the existing file, but it would be a lot of work fixing the data on the .PNGs.

Here is something else to look at. I modded several dozen freight cars to run on tram track, which is a roadtype. They are fully functional as freight cars and you can couple as many together as you want. You should look at the .XML of one and see what is different from a truck.

Just noticed this...

Thirdly: What do people reckon to having three or four 'cabs' possibly of two kinds (speed or HP based) Then a number of trailers behind the cab.

Not all at the same time, just having a variety of cabs to choose from.

I wonder if there is something in the "type" of vehicle it is as to how it restricts... I will probably play with this later....
