I didn't know that, but I shouldn't be surprised, as GP9s are so common that it makes perfect sense for there to be a way to adapt them for passenger trains. However, I don't think the MBTA ones worked that way, because they don't use them for revenue haulage anymore, just work trains - this is because the depowered Budd cars were sold as surplus. In fact, a bunch of them are operated by a tourist railroad not half an hour from my house. I remember when they hauled them up, in MBTA colors and all worn out; the tourist railroad rebuilt them. They're hauled by a couple Alco S-1s and a GP7.

A few extra comments:
Bipolar - should be avalible until little joe is on. GG is a really poor freight loco...
Challenger - this one is avalible until early sixties - shoud not be so...
E8 - make it availible until f40 is. otherwise there is a shortage of fast diesel loco. Also - E8 has a positioning error.
SD45 - 95 mph?
DanMacK - could you redo the pa-1. It does not align well and the old livery (blue one) looks rather ... not so good
Pic:
upper - y6b - tender to far
middle - E8 positioning
down - allegnheny seems to have its tender backwards
also - new y6b including auxilary water tender
sizes:
6/8 5/8 7/8 7/8

I agree with uzurpator's latest notes.
Changing to the new GRF with separate town names did not go so smoothly - all the town names changed, and half the towns wound up with NO name at all. Weird. The game still plays though.

uzurpator, I've already told oracle to ditch the old PA-1, as I agree it's a POS
The alignment issues will get addressed as well.
The 95MPH on the SD45 is for the FP45, but AFAIK it isn't possible to have a livery override have a speed override as well

On my recent trip across northern Vermont I saw a covered bridge on an abandoned rail line. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera, although it was very similar to the one on this page:
http://wilsoninn.com/location.htm
This would look good as an option alongside the current wooden bridge in the early years of the game. The engine smoke comming through the vents along the roofline would be an added touch.

Yes, I agree, it would be nice to include a set of American-style bridges, so you don't have to use any of the bridge sets. This would be particularly useful since US bridges have an interesting track configuration that's not reflected in any of the game bridges - they have extra rails in the middle, to prevent trains from derailing.

EDIT: Image working now ... site may have been temporarily unavailable.
Excellent illustration of extra rails on bridges.
Also, note the lack of railings along the sides, typical of many NA trestles.

Because the flange of the wheel is trapped between the inner and the outer rails on its side. Normally, for a train to derail, the flange of the wheel on one side must hop up and over the rail to the outside of the track; but the wheel on the other side doesn't have anything preventing it from moving further inward. With this setup, both wheels must move up and over a rail, which takes more force and is thus less likely.

It's not for preventing derailments. Its for making them less catastrophic.
If a wheel falls of the rail - then it gets trapped between the inner rails and running rails - thus making the railcar stay upright - so it won't fall from the bridge.
Note that switches/points also have this device near the frog (the place where two rails cross).

exactly! And this system is used all over the world, not only in America
EDIT: This was about that what krtaylor said, but I had problems with image. sorry.

Well, I'd think it would reduce the likelihood of a derailment too, but you're right, it cannot absolutely prevent one. But it helps, and like you say, makes them less dangerous.
Points have them too, but I dunno if we can (or want to) model that.

The one place I've seen this IRL, the rerailing rails were joined on either side of the bridge, somewhat like this:
Code: Select all

To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

except that it would have come out that way if it were not built on three different levels at different times...
