[REQ] Advertising post,& [?WIP?] Adv. Passenger Scenari

Post by Benjad »

While on a short vacation, my brain spent some processing time while driving. Here's what came out of it.. first

[REQ] Advertising post

This should be an easy mod for someone who's already familiar with it. But, let me explain. I commonly use bus stops to expand a rail station's cachment area. Later in the game, I tend to add some busses to keep the station's ratings up, and help move passengers when it gets really busy.

So, I build a straight shot of road between two large cities, and build passenger terminals between those two points, so the busses can fly in and out. This also allows them to wait for a full load. Inevitably, the busses will find a bus stop that is closer (and always through a slow, windy path) and go to that instead of the straight and fast terminal. They love to get 'lost' along the way too.

So, could someone modify a bus stop, to make it compatable with none of the vehicles... and call it an advertising post, or a sign post, or something to that effect.

I know this can also be solved with waypoints, but waypoints also have a habbit of causing lost vehicles for some reason too.

secondly, a future work in progress, maybe.
[?WIP?] Advanced passenger scenario region.

In this region, I would add two cargos.

The first would be a first class passenger. This passenger would pay higher, have special vehicles with lower capacities, but generally decay at the same rate as normal passengers. Their rate of production would be fairly low. Also, building in the region would be modified to accept 1/8 of a first class passenger, meaning you would have to transport them between large cities.

The second would be a local passenger (or maybe a commuter). The commuter would be a very low paying passenger, who would not be very profitable to transport over large distances. Maybe a very low rate, with not much of a decay, but I do need to play with the numbers to see how this could work still. These passengers could be crammed into vehicles (standing room only), allowing high capacity vehicles. This would also have to be built into the region's building, and vehicles selected for and modified.

The regular passengers would be left in, not sure if any mods would be needed to them.

This could be fun to pick and choose the vehicles to modify into this secnario (local busses vs. long distance busses etc...). This would allow a little more realism in the game, since it would give some passengers a 'pseudo-desired' destination.

lastly <RANT>

Please CS if you are lurking...

Add back some vehicle controls that were in RCT I, such as wait for half load, min/max wait time, leave if another train arrives. It is so annoying to put two busses on a route, and within one month, one bus is directly behing the other one. One makes profit, one doesn't. Station ratings drop, because the two busses are essentially acting like one.

I know this can be semi-controled in trains by limiting the number of signals in a network, but it's not very efficient for a train to pick up nothing, then be waiting at a station signal, not picking up passengers, while the other train proceedes to the next station. </RANT>

I also had the crazy idea of modding in some of the RCT graphics. Wouldn't it be fun to see the electra-star come through the ghost train crash doors, or adding some spinning tunnels just for grins. 8o

Very good ideas. And all easily do-able. (Well except the last bit)

Someone really needs to hack the DATs to read "Eurostar". It'll just get too confusing if someone actually creates an Electrostar EMU (Classes 357, 375, 376, 377). Which reminds me ...

[WIP] Advertising Sign

Post by Benjad »

I have begun work on the advertising sign today.

It is turning out to be a little more of a challenge than I originally expected, but will persevere. Added a section to the wiki, about road stations
Wiki

Have some questions on final packaking for a project like this too. What would be best way to release it? Update all regions, and roads, possibly over-writing other mods? Leave detailed instructions on how to install, precluding less saavy folks from using it?

Any ideas?
