Total Graphics Replacement discussion
Moderator: Graphics Moderators
Mmm, i didn't read this topic 100% but i walk around for longer time to enlarge the size of the game, technical i don't know if its possible but it would be nice if we would redraw the entire game to a tile size of 32 x 32 pix. Don,t know how it ll look a train taking a curve (corner) on this resolution, but if you look closely you can see the locomotives and the wagons "hang over the track" befor they turn. If possible to introduce a few diffterent tracks its possible to create an optical illusion, like te trains run on nice curves.
I know it ll be a monsterious work to redraw everything, but if we can find the right group of people and form task forces it can be done and we have created an new game

I've made a wiki page for the total graphics replacement project: http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Graphics_Development

Alltaken: I think you are right, on my monitor thye are just about readable.
28x28 (what I have) should be ok for 800x600 and 1024x768 monitors, but something bigger will be needed for bigger monitors. I should think 36x36 will be ok, I will do some testing when I have a chance though.

its basicly a total new Graphics engine, and will hopefully be working by mid 2005. so we have about 6 months to get enough graphics to make it work i guess.
perhaps on a totally different page.

I'm new to this project, but I've done a lot of isometric-art buildings in the past and would be happy to contribute anything to this project. Should I just pick something from the Wiki page that hasn't been done yet and start working on it? I could tackle the lighthouse and transmitter for starters.

I think Alltaken had just modified the "Graphics Development" page (Look at the bottom of it)

That would be grat, just change the status on the wiki and add your name so that no-one else duplicates your work.octothorp wrote:I'm new to this project, but I've done a lot of isometric-art buildings in the past and would be happy to contribute anything to this project. Has the transmitter been redone? Could someone add the info to the wiki or post the info here?Transmitter is already don't, but I don't know how about lighthouse.

I have spent the last two hours making a button to replace the current settings button (with the wrench). The best way to describe it is exceedingly crap.
I might try a 3D one to see if I can make that any better later on, I have two essays to write up though for homework.
Anyway, here are the 3 buttons I have managed to do so far (at this rate I may be done by Christmas, 2005).
(Colours are a bit off because I didn't want to upload 1.2mb)

The style is really good but maybe make the handle of the wrench a bit thinner. Good work!
