Update not working?
I tried to install 0.3.1 in the same directory as 0.3.0 , when I started the game after the update, it says: could not find: \data\sample.cat
After that, I installed 0.3.1 in an other directory and everything works fine, so maybe the update function is 0.3.1 is working correctly?

I noticed that, but when I started the installation of 0.3.1 , it asked me if I want to upgrade the old version. I answered yes and after that was finished, the game won't start. That's why I asked the question about the upgrade procedure.SHADOW-XIII wrote:Yisc, look at:

Great patch and great work
However as I can see there is no multiplayer yet
Could you give us sort of an ETA date for Multiplayer?

Multiplayer works pretty well but it is not officially supported yet (the GUI part needs to be done) but you can use it via commandline options, which are temporary hacks until we have proper a interface for it. You can play openttd over the internet with as many as 8 players in the current version (though you'll probably find the maps to be quite small with so many players) and it is very playable, even on dirt slow connections.
Multiplayer will most likely become an official feature in the next version.
Finally, blame ludde for not updating openttd.com at the same time as posting the announcement on the forum

Can't wait to try out the multiplayer!
Just get some bigger maps (officially), and you've got a multiplayer classic on your hands

I've compiled openttd on linux and made a tar.bz2 package from it. you can get it herre
(if you can't get it, it isn;t uploaded yet, it is so slow...)
just unpack it and put the files from ttd in the data folder and play it...

Tried installation again
This afternoon I reported a problem with upgrading from 0.3.0 to 0.3.1 , since I was at work, I didn't have much time to look into it. So, I tried the same action again and have figured out the exact problem. When you try to upgrade opentdd in the same directory as where it was installed previously, the files are not moved to the correct subdirectory but are just deleted. If you point to the "original" files in the first directory and install 0.3.1 in an other map, everything works just fine. Hopefully this is a better understandable description of the problem.

This was also the case for me.Yisc wrote:This afternoon I reported a problem with upgrading from 0.3.0 to 0.3.1 , since I was at work, I didn't have much time to look into it. Start openttd with the '-p [1-8] -n' option on the 'server'.
Start with '-p [1-8] -n [ip-adress server]' on the 'client'.
Possibly the value for -p should be the same on both pc's.
On final question: How to get control over a company on the client. It looks like a sort of 'spectator-mode' when started with the above options...
You only use -p to take control of an existing company. To start a new company, don't use -p.soundman wrote: On final question: How to get control over a company on the client. It looks like a sort of 'spectator-mode' when started with the above options...

When I start ./ttd -n I'm unable to do anything. Clicking New game or Quit doesn't do anything. Changing anything in the Difficulty screen also doesn't work.
When loading a savegame/scenario (or starting ./ttd -n -g
), I'm again unable to do anything. I can select stuff, but when I try to lay down tracks or stations or anything else, it just doesn't do it.

If you are compiling from source, make sure you define ENABLE_NETWORK in the preprocessor options.Zr40 wrote:When I start ./ttd -n I'm unable to do anything. Clicking New game or Quit doesn't do anything. Changing anything in the Difficulty screen also doesn't work.

wow, quite a lot is broken here in the linux version of 0.3.1. i've tried to start up a multiplayer game by invoking -p2 -n in the command line. i'm not sure, if this behavoir is natural, but if i load an old savegame of mine (0.3.0) my finances chart is completly broken, showing numbers starting from +2mrd dollar in the year before (1951) and -2mrd dollar in the current year. the music stutters, if i click on shift+arrow-keys or right mouse button, to move about the map or if i click on the fast-forward button (only in single player working). the startup screen showing ONLY the now neatly animated water and i can't start a random map (does another player have to join first, before i get to the map?).
in multiplayer, wether the pause button, nor the fast forward button do work (ffw makes sense, pause does not). the menu does not work correctly. can't save or quit the game.
