Glad you liked it. Maybe i can record the full-song after my exams, if you all want it :)

Yes i'm playing the guitars. I'm also playing the bass(but with an electric guitar, as i don't have a bass guitar) I've written the drums on the computer using real drum samples... And that's all, there's no instrument other than these...

I don't think we will have copyright issues, as long as we announce the original composer of the songs (John Broomhall). And we're not charging any money for the remake of the game or the songs, otherwise it may be a problem.

Anyway, i could also compose TT style music myself, instead of re-recording the old songs, but it's fun to do that :)

Then let me say you are a damn good guitar player. What guitars do you use? I'm a Stratocaster man myself, but I've got my eyes on a Rickenbacker...

I think we should write our own theme tune, because as you say, the other one's probably copyrighted.

Thanks tombe :)

Well, i have only one guitar, which is a custom made one (but not by a famous guitar company) . It looks like a regular ibanez (but sounds better) , and has 2 humbuckers with a single-coil between. The wood of the guitar is really good, and combining that with dimarzio pickups i get a very good tone out of it. I use it with a boss gt-6 effects processor to record direct to computer.

My main genre is metal (a highly experimental one) actually, but i also can compose TT-like music, i'll be working on the subject after my exams :)

Hmm.. TT Style Metal would be cool

I love metal myself too... Ranging from death to black to whatever, as long as it has either cool drums, cool guitars or cool lyrics, or all three :P

That sounds like a pretty cool guitar to me.

I tried loading up Music 2000 to write some stuff, but the sound on it was totally screwed and sounded like a musical pneumatic drill. Feel sad for me.

It's not funny, I can only use Cubase now, which is midi and doesn't produce very good sound quality.

Gonewacko: yeah i could also compose metal music, but it may not fit in with the game concept :) Think about it, a continous loud and noisy music playing while people are trying to lay down railroad tracks :D It may be good for the first half an hour maybe, but after that it would just be disturbing.. We should have calm and quiet music going on in the background which wouldn't break the concentration with the game. TT-style would be good :)

Tombe: I use cakewalk(sonar) for recording. But from what i understood, you are not looking for a recording program, you want a program that you can write music as midi which uses a quality audio sample set to play them.
There are VST instrument plug-ins for cubase, which provides audio samples for different instruments. You may search on the internet for those. I haven't tried'em myself as i don't use cubase, but i heard there are good ones.

I think the current musical style is sort of weird ambient-impressionist stuff, since that's what me and Tokartta seem to be writing.

Actually.. Trancy songs for the fururistic era, metal for the 90's, jazz for the start of the game, etc, would be a cool reflection of the era the game is in at that point.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to write jazz? You have to be able to do all the syncopated rhythms and chord changes and stuff perfectly to make decent-sounding jazz - it's very hard.

Well, here is an idea:
We could have some theme, and play that theme in different genres for different eras. What i mean is, for example, at the beginning of the game, tt-style version of the theme would play, and by time, the same theme would play in different musical styles suitable with the era...

We could have for example 10 themes adapted for different styles, and together with their different versions there would be lots of music in the game to prevent the player from getting bored.....

GW: no, Metal would be in the 80s, definately. It'd be better to some grunge or AltRock for the 90s...

Besides, we're not doing it like that, we're having different music for each climate zone, rather than each time period. That's why we describe our music as being Arctic, deserty or oriental, or whatever.

Well it was just an idea...

Anyway, i don't like leaving things unfinished, so here's the full version of the TT intro theme. It's not exactly same as the original, as i couldn't resist the temptation to record a short solo over it :) Enjoy...

By the way, from now on, i won't be doing any more TT music. Instead i'll try to compose music on my own. You'll hear the results in time :D
