50 years has passed.

Lessons learned so far:
  • Adding new routes takes no time at all
  • Maintaining the existing network takes longer than expected
  • Building stations takes longer than expected
  • Know the difference between station and object tiles
  • Use a smaller map

On a sunny afternoon the locals enjoy a leisurely time on their boats, drinking a few beers and relaxing with friends.

Unfortunately some sailors had one too many a beer and becomes entangled with freighters out of their league.

When freight trains chug along at 80 km/h and express passengers wants to hurtle down the coast at 180 km/h separation becomes a necessity.

One of my favourite views. I like how the city center is surrounded by suburbs, and how TTRS highrises have emerged but CET is still dominant.

Another busy day in the valley, hauling iron ore to the steel mill and steel in the other direction to the metal workshop. Luckily the freight waggons are refittable at the stations, doubling the profits.

At the steel mill the iron ore and coal from the north keeps the blast furnace busy 24/7.

Sending iron ore to the steel mill, getting quality steel in retur, and with a steady supply of chemicals, the metal workshop quickly became a major supplier of goods for Kiel.

The steel mill found a nearby scrap yard to get scrap metal, in addition to the iron ore and coal already supplied. Being located in a mountain pass the line to Kiel carrying goods was just able to get by the steel mill.

75 years has passed. Compared with the last overview made 25 years ago progress has been slow but steady. One of the major achievements has been the connection between the northeast and southwest areas. Still it's clear that for the most part the map is pretty empty.

The end of an era. At the tender age of 26 years this BR 18.1 is last steam locomotive performing regular passenger and mail service. As train enthusiasts flock to see this marvel of engineering upper management is in no hurry to retire the engine.

Working their way inland passengers has a first class view of the newly established bridge that allows the local farmer to tend to his animals. The more astute among the passengers also noticed that 1) the train ran on the left, and 2) a distinct lack of signals.

Bad Kassel had evolved tremendously over the years without anyone paying attention. As a result its infrastructure is woefully inadequate and space for expansion is at a premium.

It's 1991, and I'm inclined to fast-forward through the remaining 9 years.

The DB VT11.5 is such a beauty. They surely knew how to make cool looking, futuristic DMUs back then. In Denmark we had a customised version of this, that were painted silver in 1983-84, hence earning it the affectionate nickname Sølvpilen (silver arrow), or the not so affectionate nickname Staniolekspressen (tin foil express). Most were later sold to Poland, where they were scrapped after a brief period, but one remains in storage in Denmark, and is still fully functional, and is driven on special occasions.

Unfortunately none of the existing infrastructure is really suited to it, making it the first and the last of its kind.

After a quick change of heart FIRS - Steeltown was replaced with AIRS - Black Gold and Fire. No more car dealerships in the 1860's.

Querhorst/Würzfurt was selected as the starting point. Plenty of space between the two towns, flat land and access to the sea. A station with room for expansion, with connections to four towns nearby. Currently served by 7 trains, 4 ferries and a fleet of horse-drawn carriages.

As spring time approaches and the snow loses it grip on the Northern Territories logging camps are busy feeding the sawmill at Kahoka.

Kahoka is home to the sawmill and a timber yard which means there is plenty of work to be had. However it is also one of the most isolated places, only recently a passenger service has been opened, so the good folks can get down to the river, and travel by boat further south.

Shady Side is where people and building materials end. The boating service only goes a few miles further downstream. Getting to the sea and the bigger cities to the south is still not possible.

Down south life is easy and transport abundant. Quitman residents can enjoy trains going north, south and east, while a fleet of paddle steamers are at the ready to take curious travellers across the sound for some rest and relaxation in Columbia.

Located at the southern tip of the continent Columbia almost fells like the end of the world.

Hi!
I read almost all of your story. And I have to admit, it's great!

But can I ask what graphics mod the depot in the picture is from?
Thank you for your answer and I wish you many more days with a fun game that still entertains us old kids ;-)
