The OpenTTD 15 Title Screen Competition

Hello everyone, and welcome to the OpenTTD 15 title screen competition! This is your opportunity to design and help choose the savegame which plays behind the main menu of OpenTTD; pictured above is Plus C's winning entry for last year's OpenTTD 14 release.

The rules for the competition are as follows:

SCHEDULE
  • Submission deadline: April 21, 2025, at 23:59:00 UTC.
  • Voting opens by April 24, 2025.
  • Voting closes: April 28, 2025, at 23:59:00 UTC.
(Yes, this means that we won't release on April 1st as we have sometimes done in the past.)

ENTRY AND VOTING

All entries will be posted to this topic as a savegame. You may change your entry at any time, but only one entry will be accepted by the close of entries. If updating, please post a new entry and either delete the old entry or PM a moderator to have it removed.

Voting will take place on GitHub, as it did for OpenTTD 14.

TITLE SCREEN GUIDELINES
  • The map size should be 256 x 256. If you must go larger, no larger than 512 x 512 will be accepted.
  • This will be a first impression of the game for many new players, so create something which you feel summarizes the game. This is usually a busy, exciting scene showing off many modes of transport, but there are no rules about what must be shown.
  • You can use camera control signs to show many views of your game. Remember to test the commands you write, and that the player's screen resolution or window size can affect what gets shown and does not get shown. Test on multiple different resolutions if possible. Instructions on using the camera controls is here: viewtopic.php?p=1248166#p1248166
  • Note that any signs you place will be invisible. This excludes signs used for the camera control, which are removed when the game is loaded.
  • Breakdowns will automatically be disabled. Cheating for money is OK. Unprofitable companies are OK. Building with multiple companies is OK. Building the game in the Scenario Editor is OK.
  • Do not use AIs, GameScripts, or NewGRFs. These cannot be used in a title game.
  • The game must be created in a clean, master branch version of OpenTTD or its official binaries. The game cannot be created in custom modified versions of OpenTTD or in popular patch packs such as JGR Patch Pack, LtJoker's Patch Pack, Reddit client, CityMania client, etc.
Feel free to check out the OpenTTD 14 competition for inspiration.

Good luck!

One more thing to consider. Please design your rail networks in a way that prevents deadlocks.

Yes, I created my entry using the nightly version. Beta versions are also fine.

Last time I ran the map for one hour at max speed before submitting. This time I ran the map for two hours at max speed before submitting.

Stop using 90°turns! I'm tired of seeing it! My friends I play with use 90°turns, on random servers its flipping 90°turns! I was in a Reddit OpenTTD vanilla server, right? And aaallll the railways had 90°turns! I showed my railway to my friends and I placed down a 90°turn on the mainline and I said "When the whole network is clogged HAHA operating profit graph go brrrrrr" I flipping looked near a depot and said "That's a bit of a traffic jam" I looked at my profit graph and I think of a 90°turn and I go "Profit graph? More like Train speed going through a 90°turn graph" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It feels a little pointless to submit anything after Erato's winning entry, but here we go. :)
I've tried to make it look not as horrible in x1, but it is mostly suited to x2 interface resolution.

Here's my entry, first vanilla game in awhile. Tried to connect everything on the map and capture the coolest spots, especially enjoying the express maglev line through the valley. Enjoy!

It was supposed to be just a minor fix for the title game from version 1.10...
However, the changes went much further :)
I left the old view in one of the shots

Thanks everyone for the excellent entries! It's great to see some new faces — and some old ones who haven't entered this competition before. I think this is the strongest set of entries I've ever seen enter this competition! :D

Voting is now live, until April 28, 2025, at 23:59:00 UTC. Get those votes in!

Congratulations to Erato (Chris) for winning the OpenTTD 15 Title Game Competition with 21 votes!

I believe this is our first Toyland winner, but Chris has put forth a Toyland entry several times, so it's a well-deserved win in my opinion. :)

Big thanks to Zephyris for drawing OpenGFX2 and making the Toyland ground texture tolerable to the eyes. :D

Thank you to all who entered! I hope to see you all back next year!

Great. For the whole year, the first screen seen by first-time players will be... Toyland.

Yeah - I'm also not sure if this will serve the game well with regard to interaction with new users

If you look at the Q1 2025 OTTD Survey results only 0.5% of the players of v14 use Toyland.

Maybe the votes should be weighted by the amount of players of a particular "climate" 8)
