I just made this big mess that somehow works it obviously is terrible and slow but it does work!

Is this some kind of 8-to-1 merger? How many trains can it actually handle? At a first glance it seems that the throughput in one direction (SW to NE) will be much lower than in the opposite.

I would suggest building something like this:

Eight branch lines merging into a dual-track mainline.
