Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.51 April 2015]
Hi. I know it's been years since last release, but i would like to know if you still got the source code around to check something. i've been trying to profile a game i have that uses NARS 2.51 and i get pointed to this specific NewGRF making a ton of calls to variable 0x61 with parameter 198(0xC6).
https://newgrf-specs.tt-wiki.net/wiki/V ... n_.2861.29
I would like to know if it is intended or an accident/bug.

C6 is the vehicle ID, so that does sound like a moderately sensible use of variable 61. OTOH most of the "fancy" features of this set didn't make it through the rewrite to 2.5.yellyFish wrote:I get pointed to this specific NewGRF making a ton of calls to variable 0x61 with parameter 198(0xC6).
My development PC is currently out of commission, so I can't check the source code for you I'm afraid.

I haven't played ottd for a long time. NARS2 has always be one of my favorite sets.
Am I right in assuming that the Landmark Dates are out of date and the awesome train upgrades are gone now?
Is there a changelog somewhere?

If you're playing 2.5+, yes, that is out of date. 2.5 was completely rewritten from the ground up, so there's no changelog as such.
The "upgrades" were a way to squeeze more vehicles into TTD(Patch)'s limited vehicle IDs. Since IDs are practically unlimited in OpenTTD, it's no longer necessary.

While theres no regearing in my Add-on, I did at least try to add most of the "Generational" locomotives in my NARS Add-on Set 2cc like the various E-units, F-Units, the GE U-Boats and the ALCO/MLW Centuries.Bazhosh wrote:I haven't played ottd for a long time. Hi, I am new to these forums.
Does anybody know where I can download NARS2?
The blog download leads me to a 404 page.

Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.51 April 2015]
Bug report/feature request: The electric locomotives in this set are pretty useless since they require catenary without being any cheaper to run or build than a comparable diesel. No point in including them if they're completely nonviable. Besides that, they actually use the steam locomotive running cost base for some reason, which possibly raises their costs beyond what was intended, and definitely makes it impossible to properly reduce their costs via a base cost mod.

It would appear the link for the parameters isn't working is there another way to get them?
American diesels don't all look the same! see? the paint jobs on those two GP-somethings are totally different!

Oi PikkaBird,
I just wanna know you. the Horns on some trains sounded like single horn. (including F40PH and AEM-7)
But can you have a idea to fix it?
F40PHs AEM-7 F59PHI and P42DCs Horns is Nathan K5LA

But IIRC, Cabooses are needed on certain trains prior to the 1960s for them to operate (much in the same way they are needed, under their British name - Brake Vans - for UKRS goods trains until a certain date)

Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.51 April 2015]
That's all they do. They used to be required in earlier versions, but they're now entirely optional.Droideka30 wrote: ↑04 Aug 2021 03:07 Dumb question, but what exactly do cabooses do? Besides looking cute as heck.
Some (like the Acela) are also significant outliers in terms of both power and speed, so yes, they really needed a tweak to the standard running cost formula.
v 2.52 (20 September 2021):
- Use a slightly different formula for electric loco running costs, to make super-power locos and trainsets more viable.

Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.52 September 2021]
Hey, I want to ask about the upkeep cost for nars trains. I am in 1940 and the cost is over 100k compares to other locomotives which are around 6/7 k.
Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.52 September 2021]
Hello PikkaBird, is it possible to disable the caboose requirement in NARS 2.03 using a similar edit, by changing a few bytes in the GRF file?PikkaBird wrote: ↑19 Feb 2018 18:26In sprite 494, change "94 00" to "00 84",PikkaBird, if you don't mind, what would it take to remove the restrictions on brake wagons?and the same change in sprite 278 of the addon grf. This should disable the brakevan check completely. Alternatively, use the "Transport Tycoon Style" wagon selection, or a less silly NewGRF.Code: Select all
// vv vv 494 * 15 02 00 94 81 7F 06 00 0F 01 00 84 02 03 00 84

Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.52 September 2021]
Probably. I expect it works the same way.
Re: NARS2 - the North American Railway Set [2.52 September 2021]
I have no idea, although it will presumably be a similar line to the one quoted, and similarly early in the file.
